So I've made it my mission to get a job at Valve. This weekend I'll be reworking my resume and thought it would be amusing to put some "recommendations" on my current character reference sheet. Who better to give me recommendations than my adorable friends here at MW2F.

Valve demands that their employee's have a sense of humor and I'd like to play that card with them.

Really you can come up with anything you want; it can be silly or honest or whatever. I'll obviously weed out the stupid/ghey/sexist ones so if ya'll have a spare moment and are willing to participate I'd be most grateful and love you long time.

And seriously, the forum is so incredibly dead right now, so have fun with it.

Oh, a sense of humour. So that's the reason Steam runs soooo badly on every occasion possible, it's a practical joke...


I'd fill the CV with as many refferences to Half Life, Portal, MW2 etc as possible rather than get quotes from internet people (most of whom are 15) who have never met you - what use are these to an employer?

abc, my CV is full of references, including the installations I did of the HF2 and TF2 panels in Valves HQ. The quotes from members is a whimsical way of showing off my personality (and humor) through other people. I've included in my reference sheet quotes from past busines associates (which are highly serious) as well as my own take on myself. Valve gets resumes daily; the last thing I want is to be put at the bottom of the stack. Humor increases my odds of being noticed.

Since you're a quote "real" adult and not an internet adult I'm sure you'll know all of this, but you need to get yourself noticed in order for them to notice the cv. If they receive them daily then they will just go in n unsorted pile and probably won't even be read. Apply for a specific position. Send it directly to your potential boss as well as the HR department etc. Already having done work for them must be a huge advantage as they have already chosen your work above the rest of the world.

thanks abc, I've been working for nearly 15 years and can certainly handle the writing and delivery of a resume and cover letter. For what it's worth, every job I've ever interviewed for I've gotten; and having the necessary skill set (as discussed in my resume) has gotten me in the door. I am fully aware that Valve is in a different category but it won't stop me from trying.
