despite all the different killstreaks and errm... various weapons (nope, they are all virtually the same. All assault rifles are the same but half have high ROF low damage the other half vica versa. All SMG are the same, all snipers are 99% the same etc etc) and various playstyles (oh no, this doesn't count either. You can't snipe effectively because you can't take cover effectively with no lean button and you can not possibly precision shoot with the lag, you can't shotgun because (apart from guess which one) they all have a range of 15 yards and you can't even camp because everyone else is) and various maps (nope. Apart from wastland they are ALL inner city CQC maybe the odd 70m long street but with all the corners and alleyways trying to use say a FAL or M16 for longer range is hopeless)

... (and now to my point) this is the single most boring game I have ever owned. And I own far cry 2 (drive. checkpoint. drive. checkpoint. drive. die. drive. checkpoint. drive. checkpoint. drive. checkpoint. drive. objective. drive. checkpoint. drive. checkpoint. drive. new mission activated. drive. checkpoint. drive. checkpoint...) I used to own "Finding Nemo" on PS2 I have done 4 hour endurance races (A spec) on gran turismo, I have done months of low-speed races for completions sake in the likes of the Toyota Yaris RS with an astonishing 67 BHP.

The problem is this, an FPS game is not much fun if you never get to kill anyone, never get to use a killstreak, don't progress particular far so don't really experience the better weapons.

Fine, not a problem: I am good at COD2, very good at COD4 and very good at WaW.

MW2 could be the best game in the world and I could even be the best player in the world but I still won't do well:

Now, for some reason IW thought reading bars (ping = ["10 bars" - "no. of bars NOT present" ] x 20) is easier than reading a number (where 55ms = 55ms ping)

Spot the host (Jock) he has a ping of ZERO because everyone reports back to his computer. That means the only thing between him and world domination (since everyone can get shots onto a target) is his reaction time, weapon fire delay and the time it takes for his computer to proccess everything.

Obviously ticking over 3,000,000,000 times per second the computer speed is negligible, the weapon fire delay is what a tenth or two max. Average reaction time is 0.215 seconds. And most gamers are young therefore it's even less.

All of that realistically adds up to 0.5 seconds absolute max.

Take a look at those pings bars (I'll say "bars" because as we've seen "bars" are clearly less complicated than a number)

My average is about 150ms (sods law as I try to make a point the SS has one of my better pings, almost under 100...)

So when someone runs out of the room it takes 0.15 seconds for them to appear on my screen. If I then fire it takes another 0.15 seconds for that to register. That is 0.3 seconds. That is LONGER than my reaction & target aquisition time.

"lag" has not-far-off DOUBLED my "see enemy and shoot them" time.






Now consider the enemy is running or sprinting (hardly unlikely...) with a "spot and shoot delay" due to lag of 0.3 seconds running (assuming a hardly sporty 100m in 15 seconds = 6.6ms) they will be over TWO meters away from where you see them.

Now add reaction time. They can run 10m across a room and knife you and you will not have a chance even if you are staring at the door.





Ah but the host always has a big advantage! Ah but pings bars in MW2 frequently differ by at least 200ms (I mean come on, not everyone always has a 4 bar) which is at least 0.4s which again if measuring enemy running out of a door and then you shoot him, is far above the average reaction time.





And what if, like me, you live in one of the worst western countries (Yes, the UK) for internet speeds and qualitys and some evenings you are 1 or 2 bars off of everyone else. You just can not HOPE to win ANY one on one encounter with an enemy with such a delay.

I just can not enjoy this game on an evening where I have a bad connection.

A console lags equally as much. It's just consoles have always lagged horribly so continuing to lag horribly doesn't bother you.

Needless to say with a half decent connection the game is transformed, which whilst nice, is just annoying because you go on and have no idea what it'll be like.

You can only hope the better days outweigh the lag filled days - which you may aswell not play because you'll have done well to go 2:1.

Abc I could not agree with you more, IMO this game can be great on the rare occasions that you are not lagging like hell or at a huge disadvantage compared to some of the other players. The game simply does NOT pick the best host end of story I refuse to believe that the guy in your screenshot was the best host for that game.

EDIT: When "lagging"(and my lagging I mean when I have 3/4bars like I did in that game this game is a heap of shit BS deaths all round why the hell can't IW/Sony grow some frigging balls and prodouce a decent game without these problems that isn't easy to effing hack.

i have to admit with abc, there is something about this game that is very repetative and very boring. imo i think it is the maps like u said, cod4 is still the better out of the 2 and thats because the maps are awesome.

This game is good dont get me wrong, however it hasnt got feel of me wanting it to play it every day like cod4 did, and its not that im bored with modern warfare because i still want to play cod4 but i cant be bothered to change disk lol

I had latency problems initially - I can't say it made the game boring for me though!

It all changed after patch 1.06 I think - instead of connecting to US players, 99% of the time I'm now in game with my region - made a nice difference. This was on PS3.

Weird happenings last night though - seemed to get connected to a japanese host and eventually pulled into games against all japanese players (I'm in Australia)! kinda fun for a change.

TBH I still enjoy CoD4 much more than MW2 too, last time I played I "air-knived 3 snipers in the back in close succession and none died and I was at point blank range I didn't miss lol then I got no scoped by a .50Cal >.>

I definitely agree with you abc. Finally, we have logical reasons why this game is close to (or is) fail.
As Fenny said, it doesn't have that COD4 feel. I have to say, it is addicting and I do want to play it daily, but honestly it's only because I want to rank up.
After 2 years, COD4 still isn't boring, I think MW2 will become so if something doesn't change.
Some days I'd say I love this game, others I'd like to snap that damn CD.

perhaps the title to this thread could have been; "Why MW2 could have been the best game in the world but..."

To be honest, ABC seems completely negative about the game and has done from the start, and I wonder why he doesnt just give it up and hand over the running of the forum to someone else who doesnt just continually bash the game and the members here who are trying to add something to the community
