Default EPL (Club Football/Soccer) Thread

Seeing that there's a good posting community during the World Cup, I thought I'd start this thread specifically for the upcoming club season.

Basically a general discussion for club football. Keep it on topic please guys.

--------------------------------------------------------------

My home team, Ipswich, I have little faith in. We're meant to be chasing promotion this season, but I can't see it happening. We haven't strengthened over the summer and are trying to hold onto our main talent (Connor Wickham, 17 year old English striker). Arsenal and Spuds are both after him, 8m apparently, which I'm hoping will involve him being loaned back to use for the next season (or two).

Outside of him, I can't see anyone being of any threat to the league.

Looks like another season of mediocrity.

Well that leaves me out! Since I'm not too familiar with EPL but I will be rooting for Man U since 'Chicharito' joined their ranks. He was acquired by Man U from my home team, Club Deportivo Guadalajara.

One of my mates in England is an Ipswich fan loves em. Im looking forward to the season, its refreshing to watch football and not be overly emotional about it ( Englands failure springs to mind) . Im predicting Man utd will regain the title ( never count fergie out ) as long as they spend some cash.
I love to watch Arsenal play so im hoping they keep Fabregas, bring in some experience at the back , buy another squad player for the middle and indeed get a new striker. I appreciate they got the guy from France ( Chamakh) in the end but Eduardo isnt the player he was so that leaves Van Persie alone, Oh yeh and they need a keeper.

I'll do it next week when I'm back home.

Premier League starts August 15th. Other English leagues kick off the weekend before.

Rest of Europe (the main leagues) are around the same time.

What does everyone think of Henry signing for Red Bull New York?

Personally, I think its good for the league. Hopefully it'll tempt more kids away from the other sports and into football, improving the league in the long run and giving the world another good competition to watch.

The MLS needs some changes, but as they're only a few years old (started in 1993) they have time to develop. Just need for a couple of broadcasters to put more money into televising the league for a start.

I hate Henry, but I agree with you he's a good addition to the MLS. The MLS has potential but it can't earn money just off of the LA Galaxy. (I think FC Dallas also earns some money as well judging by the good amount of revenue its brought to my town) Come on European players give America a chance.

Alright I looked it up right now there are only three leagues that are actually profitable LA Galaxy, FC Toronto, and FC Dallas. There are a few other leagues including the New York Red Bulls. I know I'll watch some MLS to see Landon Donovan and David Beckham play. Too bad the only live games I'll actually see are the ones with FC Dallas since their stadium is ten minutes from my house. Come on Dallas I'll attend almost every one of your matches if you can get Michael Ballack on your team.

Duffed Barnet 4-0 in our usual friendly, wilshere looked good so did simpson, for the love of god DON'T sell those two! at least see what they are like! both seem like good young players English too so keep them, we've let go of some IMO decent young players recently.

I suport Brighton and hove albion, my nearest club. Well actually Crawley Town is nearer but they are in the blue square permier so I don'y follow. Things are looking good, Gus Poyet took over when we were 21st in the league and we finished 13th. Hopefully we will get in the playoffs and get promoted to the championship in time for our new stadium, check it out. Brighton and Hove Albion | News | Stadium Gallery | Stadium Gallery | Aerial Shots of the Amex Stadium

But in the premier league, I will be supporting Spurs.

Cole to Liverpool(why not to a club with Champions League football?) I wanted him at Arsenal, we also sold Eduardo, that makes me sad, injury has ruined his career or at least slowed it down, hopefully he will get back at his best. City are annoying me with their money and their transfer rumors, they are after EVERYONE, piss off will yous! A lot of talk about Balotelli from Inter, anyone else think that 30 million is faaaaaaaaar too much for a player who has a bad attitude and couldn't get into Inter's first team last year? seems like a good player but 30 million is ridiculous.

Seems a lot of talk about whether Utd will be able to do good this season especially after Fergy said no more signings, IMO the man knows what he is doing and I wont be quick to write Utd off.

Arsenal to finally win something this year? Cannot wait to see Chamakh make his debut, I am praying we keep Fabregas like we seem to sell one of our best players nearly every year now, we've sold Henry, Hleb, Flamini, Toure(I fucking loved him),Adebeyor and now Eduardo(probably someone else i've forgot) like how can you build a team by doing that? you can't really can you? When we were winning the double and the league unbeaten, some of those players had been at Arsenal for years, we don't give our players the chance to do that now really.

Wenger gets goose bumps when someone over 30 walks past him so he has to sell , he has an obsession with young men.......ahem. I know the guy that actually broke Eduardos leg hes one of my best mates from when I was a kid (shocked face) .
Arsenal need to keep Fabregas but im starting to think whats the point. Indeed people keep stiring it up and unsettling him, saying stuff like "well hes only on loan to arsenal". Does he not get he is the main man at Arsenal and if he goes to Barca there is no guarantee he will get better. In the old days in football if you said such and such isnt leaving he wasnt. Nowadays the agents the clubs and even the players dads just stir things up until the guy leaves despite him being happy. I despair.

Arsenal should move for Ozil. I'd like to see him play for them, but then it'd mean they have about 20 attacking centre mids. Fabregas will leave next season, I think. Be a shame to see him go, but Barcelona are cunts.

Couple of things;

- Fulham should go for Mark Hughes as their next manager (unless they already have behind the scenes and been rejected). The only other person I'd like to see them get is Bob Bradley (the US manager), might be a big step-up though.

- Bramble signed for Sunderland. LOLOLOLOL

France have suspended the 23 players from their World Cup team for their next game. It's only a friendly against Hungary, but it'll be Blanc's first game incharge. I guess they had to do something.
