Default Finger Chunks (Pics) [Update]

For the win. I was at a job site last Thursday and was cleaning soot off of a ceramic vase. Normally being a "runner", which is making boxes, lifting furniture into the moving truck, and packing contents on a fire job, this time I was cleaning and packing. As I was cleaning the vase, it shattered in my hands, and thus slicing a chunk off of my finger. I started to bleed pretty bad and everyone was flipping out. I wrapped it up tightly and was driven to the hospital, where a nursing assistant wrapped my finger up extremely tightly. Too tight, more on that later.

The first twelve hours were fucking shitty. When I got into the medical room finally, the female nurse ran my flesh under running water, I wanted to scream and launch that bitch ten feet into the air. After everything was said and done, I was sent home and was instructed to remove the dressing bandage after 36 hours. So at 2AM, I decide to unwrap the sleeve and clean my wound. It turns out the foam compression that the nursing assistant used, merged into my clot, and ripped it open again upon taking it off. As the bleeding got worse, I wrapped it up again and had a freaked out mom drive me to the Florida Hospital, a different hospital than the one I went to Thursday.

It turns out that the nursing assistant wrapped my finger TOO tight, and cut off my circulation in turn to stop the bleeding, and it left my finger a swollen, numb mess. The Doctor (yes, an actual physician this time) used a compound, self clotting powder and a lubricated, non-stick gauze pad to keep it from ripping and told me to come back Sunday after 6PM.

Thankfully, it turns out that my wound is now clotted, and healing very nicely, and should heal within a month. There's a big circular blister doing around my finger where the tight bandage was, and its still pretty damn swollen. The tip of my finger is white from the moist vaseline, and the inner tip is black from the compound powder and the blood clotting.

Pics below, warning, not safe for those with a light stomach.

Spoiler:
First day, fresh from the flesh.

All six of my hospital bands, my WOAR STRIPEZ.

From view of my clotted, dried up finger.

Outer view, you see the white moistness from the gauze.

Blister view 1.

Blister view 2.

I know it looks terrible, however the Doc said it would make a full recovery and my skin would grow back. Until next time guise.

Reminds me of the time I took a baseball cleat to the knee. About 2" wide 3/4"-1" deep incision. Yes it was quite the clean cut. It was quite amusing to watch them stick their finger into the wound with gauze and iodine to clean it out and I couldn't feel a thing due to the numbing agent they used on me.

Oh fuck yeah man. Iodine is worse than alcohol, not only will it sting heavily, it'll burn for a long time too. I assume they gave you painkillers as well. Iodine is a bitch.

Sorry to hear that Wunda. :P

They just shot me up around the wound so I didn't feel anything. Nothing after that though. Just some penicillan for the infection.

I'm glad they did, otherwise you would have been in a world of pain. I remember when I had a stubborn wart on my cheek, so the family practitioner shot me on the cheek and torched it. It was awesome, and it smelled funny.

Update: I ended up going back to the hospital for a final check up on it. My finger is still bruised pretty bad from the douchebag of a NURSING ASSISTANT that over-tightly wrapped my finger in the first place. I still have not much feeling in it, even thought I can still bend it and all of that good stuff. The blister finally popped and now the skin is peeling, it looks pretty damn freaky with part of my finger being brown ad the other half being pink.

Now I have to go see a hand specialist since the folks at the ER and the hospital doesn't want to deal with me. Ii thought that was pretty lame wasting my time at the ER, however it is what it is. I talked to the doctor at the ER ad he said me potentially losing feeling in my finger due to the NA's negligence could be grounds for a lawsuit, but I just care about getting my middle finger back to health. I mean, all of this hassle over one bad cut is bullshit.

ANYWAY, moar pics.

Spoiler:

Clotted and scabbed.

Closer look.

Aftermath of popped blister and freak skin.

The bruised part is the only area where I have feeling in my finger.
