Default I was on fire today!!!

Literally.

I was using a torch to heat up a pvc pipe and right below the pipe was a puddle of pvc glue, which my co-worker had spilt and not cleaned up. Well . . . pvc glue is highly flamable, and as soon as i put the torch to the pipe the puddle below engulfed in flames. Now this was all on a gravel/dirt floor and wouldn't have hurt anything if i'd have just let it burn out . . . i'm not that bright. I started stomping on the fire and in turn caught my boot and the bottom of my jeans on fire. I ran over to a pile of pea gravel and shoved my foot in the pile and put it out. After it was all over i looked at my pants and boot and strangely enough there wasn't a mark on them.

It was the first time I’ve ever been on fire and after it was over I kind of felt like it was a right of passage and kind of cool. Just felt like sharing the story.

Wow that sucks. Glad you are ok. I would have beaten my co-worker senseless for not cleaning that up if it were me.

Yeah the fire was just burning the accelerant, you can put alcohol on your hand and light it on fire w/o burning yourself.

Oh i wanted to, but it really wasn't his fult. Typically we don't use a direct flame to heat up the pipe. We normally use a hot box and let it heat up in, basically, a pipe microwave. So normally when ever we have any spills it's really not a big deal.

OzCueball, what exactly do you need to heat up PVC pipe for? I'm curious, as I use a simple propane torch at work and have, on some occasions, nearly caught things on fire.

Also, since you asked me about posters and cost, you can get 20x30 posters printed really cheap at Costco. Our company can't compete with the pricing they offered. They probably have a link on their website as well.

Glad you're okay. The glue probably just got on your boots & pants & then burnt out.

Yeah that would suck big time. I did almost burn down our apartment building once. I threw a lit cigarette in a bucket of butts outside our door on a hot humid day and five minutes later our neighbor was knocked on our door and was like "Um . . . your buckets on fire." I was baked at the time.

My job that i'm working now is an electrician on a construction site. We're building an elementary school and in the process of running the pvc pipe in the ground for the electrical lines before they pour the concrete floor. It's actually really neat to see how it all comes together.

And i looked at the site you told me about in your thread and it was cool but i didn't see anything for custom posters, just custom mugs, shirts and things like that. I'll take a look at the costco though and see what i can come up with. Thanks for the tip!

Funny you say that cause i've seriously cut back for the job. I used to be an every day smoker, now i do it maybe once every two or three weeks.

Damn, now i want some.
