Default M14 bug

Me being a semi-auto kind of guy, I jumped right on the M14 once I unlocked it. I thought it was quite decent...until I came across this bug: the thing jams!

This usually happens in frantic situations when you tend to spam the trigger. Then for some reason no bullets are coming out even as you're still spamming. Then one second later the guy you were shooting at pwns you.

Did Treyarch do this on purpose? I saw a a thread from another forum that talked about this 'bug' and it was mentioned that guns jammed a lot during this era. I know this isn't the reason simply because it's BS. If it was the case then Treyarch would have made guns jam in World at War. Besides, guns nowadays jam a lot too.

The only reason I could see why Treyarch implemented this 'bug' on purpose is to inhibit use of modded controllers. But then again, there are other semi-autos in the game (pistols, shotguns) but the same jamming problem does not occur with them.

Has anyone tried out the FAL to yet (I haven't unlocked it)?

I hope Treyarch patches it. Like I said, the M14 is decent. I just think the recoil is too bad.

Its bad enough that the gun is single fire and slower than the others, making it jam seems like a double punishment, if so it was a strange decision by treyarch. Im not a fan of the semi autos.

I think I've had one jam, several mouse clicks and no bullets (I'm not sure if it was the M14 though, either that or an M16 because I remember lots of clicking).

I've tried both the M14 and FAL in Combat Training (Already rank 50 on that, but doesn't allow prestige).

I haven't experienced jams ever with either one.

And I have a fast trigger finger, it allows me to do it fine.

Are you playing on PS3?
The M14 has definitely jammed on me at least once every COD session I have.
Even when I'm not hitting the trigger full speed it will randomly jam.

I'm going by what I've read here, apparently if you exceed the max fire limit it jams for a few secs as opposed to just not firing that shot.

In W@W they do this to get rid of people that use mods. If you shoot to fast it makes your gun shoot slower, not sure if this is the same thing you are running into, but it could be..

^ If this is really the case, I think the implementation is really shoddy. Sometimes it'll jam after two shots and sometimes I can empty a whole magazine as fast as I can with no problems.

^ I used the M1A1 all the time in WaW and never had the jamming issue that Black Ops has. People have definitely been able to used modded controllers in WaW. Are you sure about your facts? I play on PS3 btw.

So I have unlocked the FAL. Same jamming issues as with the M14. I really hope Trey does something about this. Semi-autos are my favorite to use and it's dumb that people like me can't use them w/o getting effed over multiple times in a match. I have seen footage of modded controllers being used and I definitely do not shoot as fast they can. If Trey jams these sem-autos on purpose, they're going to have to raise the max-firerate to something more reasonable.

Definitely happens on PC. Even worse is that with the hitching that seems to be all over MP, firing a semi-auto just as the game hitches (for any amount of time) seems to make the game think I'm destroying the fire rate cap, thus forcing me to get killed because I'm completely incapable of fighting back.

It's dumb. Doesn't make the guns unusable, but makes no sense anyway, especially since it's not physically impossible to fire that fast. (Evidently, since people are getting hit with this anyway.)

It's DEFNITELY not an intentional "jam" (if Treyarch had any common sense)

The Stoner 63 was an amazing gun, the only reason the Army/Marines didn't use it extensively was BECAUSE it jammed. The only reason the spec ops used it was because they cleaned it religiously.

The M16 jammed as well, a lot. Before they worked on it more, the dust and dirt really fucked up the insides.

While it makes sense that the M14 might jam, considering it's wood (humidity warps wood) and it's not an AK as far as reliability, having a video game gun jam would just be dumb, unless it's CoD MW and you have gaitlin guns.

Thought this happened to me yesterday. Gave up first blood because of it. However, I realized I had just been using the Galil, so I saw an enemy, held down the trigger on the M14 and fired one shot

I know that's not what you're doing but it was funny to me. I was like "it DOES jam!!...no, wait....I'm stupid"

Just a heads up, if you browse the steam boards etc, you will find multiple 5pages threads on this issue, so it's defo a big problem. Though I havn't found any plans on a fix yet :|

Sounds to me like they might have implemented it so that you can't use a modded controller like with the Fal and make it full auto. Unless Treyarch has said differently?

Case 1: It's just weird bug that the M14 and FAL have.

Case 2: Treyarch purposely put a firerate cap on said ARs to deter use of modded controllers. The cap is either buggy itself or Treyarch put the cap too low (the firerate at which the gun jams) to the point that players with fast trigger fingers (you don't even have to be that fast?) are penalized and outraged.

From what people are saying here and from other sources, it seems like Case 2 is what's going on.
Either way, TREYARCH HAS TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!
Make them as capable as the semi-auto ARs from WaW.
I would like to test out the BLOPS M14 and FAL again to get a better look at the jamming behavior but I know I will get pissed off and rage-quit by the end of the match.
