Just curious if there are any things you guys do to get yourself out of a bad spell.

Last night and this morning my KDR averaged 1.1, with some games actually under 0.5 (ewwwww). Usually, I try to tell myself to slow down, check my corners, etc. but it seems time is really the only way to end my horrible performance.

Play another game. When i go back to cod problem solved (sometimes).

Cloud

Use different guns, play different gamemodes, or if i'm really bad, play a different game.

I usually just quit, and maybe do some web browsing or something to take my mind off it. I might later play some Campaign, or play a different CoD. I switch between CoD4 and Black Ops quite frequently at the moment.

What do I do to get out of bad spells? Use my brain. Actually think about why I'm dying, think up a strategy that avoids the sort of situations which I'm dying in, adapt and instantly do far better.

If I'm doing particularly badly there's always an identifiable reason for it, here are some examples & solutions to why I in particular do badly:

• If I'm cold my fingers/wrist/arm gets a tiny bit numb and my aim goes all jumpy and unprecise - solution: use a weapon AND tactic which forgives bad aim (LMGs from long range, weapons with a high ROF to make every landed shot count, launchers/explosives/noob tubes, shotguns)
• If I have a high ping then in any situation requiring fast reflexes I'm naturally at a big disadvantage - solution: avoid CQC, run'n'gun attitiudes and find a scenario that allows to take cover regularly as, when you have a high ping, you are often dead before their last shot even appears on your screen. It's still perfectly possible to cover a high-traffic zone with an LMG without being sat in a corner waiting for an innocent bypasser (aka camping) aiming down the alleys besides the houses or aiming through the delivery van in the centre of nuketown are good examples.
• If they're team is simply a bunch of run'n'gunners with very quick and precise aim then take up a weapon and tactic that stays outside the range of a AK74u + grip + rapid fire.
• If you're constantly dying from air support and shooting it down isn't a viable option (e.g. you're top of leaderboards - remember your "threat levels" from COD4 everyone? or your spawn point is being hammered) then take up a tactic that involves staying indoors, sniping or CQC or something.

I do have a serious point here. COD shouldn't be hard and if you play smart you will do as well as your aim allows you. I certainly don't have the best aim or reactions of any of the servers I play in, but by playing smart I minimise the amount of times I die which as it happens gives you a good KD. This leads to air support. Air support leads to instantly placing top 3 in every game.

"Playing smart" means utilising your strengths & avoiding your weaknesses. Camping in a corner at the back of a map waiting for 3 stealthy people to run past your bush each game is only "utilising your strengths and avoiding your weaknesses" if your strengths are nothing but patience and your weaknesses include terrible aim and movement.

Sure, sometimes you can't avoid being shot in the back and yes sometimes you just come across a player who is faster and more accurate that you and you die.

I usually try to find a friend online or meet somebody crazy online and then go flamethrowering or bknifing, not caring about KD. It's hilarious when you're playing HQ with a full party and whenever an enemy appears he gets absolutely covered in 6 different flame streams 8D

and i still go negative in those most of the time.
