Default Which games help you understand the maps and strategize better?

I only play TDM and I know I'm missing out, but honestly I play it because it's the easiest. I don't think I'm good, but usually come in the first or second spot on TDM. I don't really play with any kind of strategy. I just look for the red dots and have pretty decent aim. I need to work on my defense, because I can easily get a 2-4 kill streak, but anything more than that I struggle with and rarely get. I guess I probably need to work on hiding or waiting? I don't like camping nor do I have the patience for it, but I guess it seems to work for most. I think my biggest thing is I run around corners instead of taking it slow and just get caught off guard a lot. I saw in order to level up quicker Search and Destroy and/or HQ was recommended so I tried 1 game of each tonight and it was pathetic to say the least, lol. I didn't know what to really do, but I figure HQ is like a big single location of domination. I think if I started playing these games it would help my strategic skills go up, but at the rate of making my stats pretty bad for awhile, but I guess they are just numbers anyway right? I'm currently level 36 and my main guns are the Ghalil, Fal, and the stoner sometimes. Or maybe I should play demolition and domination before stepping up to HQ and SND.

Come on who's got the private games setup and giving tips through a run through? lol.

Would you guys say knowing the maps is probably one of the biggest keys to being successful in these games or just learning a good defense and offense and applying to every map? Should I learn how to camp lol? Seems like those guys are the most successful, but hell I wouldn't even know where to camp, lol.
MY KDR is currently 1.13 I know still sucks compared to most, but considering on MW2 it was about .70 I'm happy.

Towards the end of the MW2 life I started getting much better, not sure why but maybe it was just the familiarity and my fav gun (RPD, FMJ, grip, and stopping power... o how I loved that combo). Anyways, I can get the kills and the numbers, but not consistently and not good enough to get higher kill streaks. Anyone care to watch some of my videos and give me some pointers?

Not sure if the community is like that on these boards, but I remember back in my flight simulator days people were very helpful like that.

My psn is theblackside8 feel free to shoot me an invite. Sorry for the long post.

The easiest (but probably not quite the fastest) way to learn maps on SnD is just to play, at first you won't know nade spots, how far people can rush and how fast etc. but playing will teach you these things. I would recommend claymores starting out - if you plant one each round in a half decent spot they should provide some xp even if you're not killing people all that regularly.

As far as strategy... there are so many possible things you could do I won't even try to touch on that. Maybe someone will write a guide on SnD strategy (or maybe they have).

I actually think TDM does help you learn the maps. If you play domo or demo, etc., alot of the time you end up focusing on the objective and there are entire areas of maps you won't even use.

Actually on nuke town on my very first game I new the nade spots and got a double kill for first blood.

And my first time on Jungle, I didn't know any nade spots, but I threw one randomly and killed someone for first blood.

I would try playing domination. You have to run around capping flags, so you could get to know the map easier than something like SnD where you just stay back and camp.

Domination is probably best for getting to know maps as you have to run around a fair bit. Demolition is good for camping etc as there are 2 bomb sites as you know and the enemy's resistance/advance would be focused mainly on those 2 areas so you should find a decent spot to sit down/flank and get your KD up or whatever pretty soon after starting.

It's harder to throw a nade on nuketown & not hit somebody than it is to hit somebody.

That hypothesis depends on whether the player is actually attempting to gain kills using a grenade. I could throw them outside of the map all day long.

Search and Destroy is not the place to go to learn the maps initially...you'll get killed by the people who already know them well before you get to do any learning.

TDM is the best mode probably for learning the maps initially because that is what TDM is about, exploring the map in the most lethal fashion possible. Once you have the basic layout down, moving to search will help more than any other game mode in finding all the subtle little spots on the map.

I'd say knowing the maps well 60% of the 'skill' involved in the game, then it's 10% reflexes/hand eye coordination, 10% tactics, and 20% lag or lack thereof.

TDM and FFA would be the harder gametypes except for SnD. Everyone is focusing on kills and the spawns are random so you have to be more aware. Domination / Demolition is fixed at all times and it's so easy to learn it and when you've done that there's no stopping you. I would recommend either domination or continue to play TDM in orded to learn the maps. Another piece of advice I can give you is to go into a private match and run around exploring the maps on your own, so you know the layout and secret spots etc.

Thanks guys, going to incorporate the advice and add some Domination in the gameplay and see how it goes. Also like the private match idea as well.

Damn dom is so discouraging... Relies heavily on the team. Not sure if I should be going for the flags the other teams have or not. I guess I should say not sure how to get them since they just camp all around from all angles. That was probably a bad game or 2, lol. I feel like a noob all over again on these other games.

Default Re: Which games help you understand the maps and strategize better?

I'm not awesome by any means, but a few tips that have improved my game:

-Playing Domination. Having flags makes you check out parts of the map that you probably wouldn't with open games like FFA or TDM. On open ended games it seems that people congregate in certain sections of the map while other areas go ignored. In Domination, you end up using most of the map. Also (this is totally subjective) but the level of player skill is higher on objective based games. FFA has a lot of noobs, and playing it exclusively will give you false confidence. As for flag etiquette, if it's not yours, capture it! Stay near your teammates, going solo will often result with you running into a flurry of bullets by 2-3 opposing players.

-Develop a play style that's comfortable. I use a hybrid style of rushing and camping. Run, get behind cover, look around, repeat. Camping exclusively is worthless because someone will inevitably see you and cap your ass like a sitting duck. Unless you're an exclusive player with massive skills (Sandy Ravage, etc) rushing will lead to you getting killed frequently as well.

-Watch videos of gameplay on YouTube. As previously mentioned, Sandy Ravage is the king of COD vids, I also like watching Chris Smoove because his play style is a little more realistic for the average player.

-Keep playing! Notice when you get into lobbies the best players are often high levels. Your reflexes and results will improve over time.

-Also, HEARING the game helps. I play with gaming headphones, it's awesome to be able to hear players coming up behind you, reloading, shooting in the distance, etc.

Both made by Israel Military Industries, similar in game ROF and recoil. Maybe not the best in game gun, but hella solid.

From a military POV, the guns are night & day difference though. Pretty sure some armydude on these boards can back me up on this.

I'm not an armydude. I'm a disaffected 20-something afflicted with chronic rage.

I can back you up brah.

In real life of course. Bullpup design vs standard, completely different ROF, etc, etc. I guess I'm just referring to a similar in game "feel" with both of the guns.

This is coming from a person who, in another thread, stated that the FAL "can't be beat" but is hard to build killstreaks with.
