YouTube Links in Sigs Clarification

The moderating team have noticed an increasing amount of reports regarding youtube links in signatures. We have amended some slightly-dodgy wording in the rules and would like to point out that there's nothing to say or infer that "youtube links in signatures are not allowed with less than 50 posts."


The primary reason for links in sigs being exempt from the 50 post rule is that whilst making posts containing YouTube links do all sorts of harm (clogs up forums, sideline's videos made by regular users, derails threads etc) a reasonably sized link in a signature is unobtrusive. Needless to say if people post spam just to get exposure for their signature then that content will be removed as per the "no spam" rule.

Whilst allowing links in signatures does mean that some users may post contentless posts in order to create visibility for their links, the moderating team believes that we are fully able to deal with potential spam, and if spamming to spread signature links becomes too much of a problem then these permissions can be rescinded.


As always, we are fully open to constructive criticism and since many of our reports deal with YouTube links we realise that this is a concern of the community. Any feedback on this clarification of policy would be much appreciated.

In my opinion, links to channels in signatures should still require a contribution of 50 posts in the same vain as the posting rule, for obvious reasons.

However, I respect the decision made, and understand your reasoning behind it. And, as you say, it can always be amended.

I presume your prefference is "out of principle" rather than a belief that this current system is flawed in the sense it can be gotten around?

I like gamers idea.

OT: It doesn't bother me if people have YT links in their sigs. We choose whether or not we are going to click the link. If people want the links to be seen, they will need to contribute in some way to the forum. And I believe abc when he says the mods will actively weed out those members that abuse the rules.
