Default Video game streaming and uploading may become illegal.

Quoted from another post from a forum for an online game. I've taken out parts that don't relate to the bill and issues.

Quote:
So many of you have streamed video game footage/montages/reviews/gameplays/etc. I have enjoyed watching CoD footage, Halo footage, [Snip]

Well Hollywood, being greedy and selfish [Snip] decided to propose a bill that advocated for the banning of any streaming of copyrighted footage on the internet.

Currently, the wording of the Bill allows the government to persecute and terminate any video makers and videos that have footage of video game gameplays, clips from movies, commentaries, etc.

Huskystarcraft, Day[9], Machinima, Machinima Respawn (and all other Machinimas), Spadow would get really screwed in the bum. Their videos, which number in the thousands, would not only get terminated, but the video makers themselves would get fined and sent to jail.

Another problem is that the bill has a HIGH chance of passing due to the massive number of lobbyist parties and entertainment companies pushing for the success of this bill. Congress pretty much isn't listening to any other source! Just look at the number of supporters and opposers. It's ridiculous.

If you want more information on this, read these sources:

I doubt it would affect gamers. The developers count on youtube as a free way to advertise their games, therefore I doubt any of them would press charges. I'm guessing this bill is more aimed at copyright music and movies/television shows.

From what I've read, a lot of commentators could be facing jail time if this passes. I don't get it though, YT gets a lot of its traffic from gaming.

Also, how would they enforce it? It's just like people downloading music for free illegally. There's no real way to stop it and there's millions of people doing it.

ex post facto, you can't charge someone with a crime, when a law passes, from previous actions.

If this bill passes, it doesn't matter if the Developers want to press charges or not. The government themselves can make charges with or without the Developers say.

The links said that companies simply have to express permission.

From what I gather, the purpose of it is to streamline the process & allow them to simply fine/jail people who stream content illegally instead of having to file lawsuits.

This may not affect Youtube since they already have agreements in place to avoid said lawsuits. But then again, it still puts us at the companies mercy. :/

The whole thing sounds fucking retarded. There are clearly FAR more pressing issues in the world than this.

Meh, money is more important than peoples lives.

New Zealand is the first country to make it law that if you're accused (not convicted) of piracy 3 times your Internet will be disconnected. Companies are pushing for the same law in the USA, UK & Australia.

This debate is one of the most ridiculous arguments there is...

So, basically, you're calling me a criminal if I embed a video, stream it, or upload it. This situation started when someone embedded a video that the government did not like. Ridiculous! You're placing the blame on basically everyone, including youtube, and youtube has been cracking down on these "illegal" activity for years.

Neverless, there's a video that everyone should support:

As far as I know there is a section of copyright law (at least in the UK) that allows the use of copyright material for educational purposes. Therefore any COD vids with tutorial commentary (rather than 'wow aren't i crazy talking about random shit' commentary) would be classed as this and would be exempt.
Further to this, youtube would just slap ads on the beginning of all vids and use the revenue to create mechanical performing rights licenses for each user to cover this issue. Things stay legal, the developers make some money = there will be no problem.

If you believe this.....your mind needs retuning. ISPs know how rife piracy is, and in many cases support it with unlimited downloads and no speed throttling and fibre optics. Without piracy everyone will still be on dial up as they would not need high speeds. So music producers need to wake the fuck up and understand no one gives a shit about how much they earn....as long as skuh can download his boy george and prince albums for free...consumers are happy
