Default Debate Rules (Please Read Before Posting)

If you do not adhere to these rules we will not hesitate to temporarily (or permanently) ban you from the debate section.

Here are some official guidelines, and rules for debating, and becoming a better debater on the forums. Please read these, and apply them to your posts, and I'm certain we can all get on civilly. Please note that posts can, and will be edited on Moderators discretion at any time. Thanks.

1. Legible Spelling, and Grammar
- I'm surprised that many people don't spell check their posts, since most browsers have a built in spell checker. This may not be one of the more important rules about debating, but it's definitely one of the more influencial ones. People will take you a lot more seriously if you type in a intelligent, professional manner, than a grade schooler. We understand that MW2F isn't an English class, however legible posts are much easier to comprehend when debating on a forum. A little proof reading goes a long way.

2. Back Up Your Opinions!
- The sky is green. The world is going to end. Oprah lost fifty pounds again. Sure, I can say it, but how credible am I if I can't back up my opinions with solid evidence? Always include sources, references, and links to anything that can back up your opinions, unless you want people thinking you're pulling ideas out of your behind. Example: Instead of saying "i think the tar21 is da best bcuz it looks kewl lol", you should say: "I believe the TAR-21, to be the best assault rifle because of it's high fire rate, and damage per second. [insert source here]".

3. Disprove Opinions, Don't Insult Others
- We all know that in MW2F, debates can get out of hand and it turns into a flame war. Well, we need to put a stop to that, and soon. Hopefully this can help do such a task. In debates, you will grow annoyed, perhaps even angry at the people you are debating against, don't let it get to you. You look much more credible and respectful if you can use your intelligence to outwit them, not belittle them, even though they may make you think "My IQ level just dropped from replying to this person". Use proper facts and intelligence as your weapon, not flaming. Flaming is the weakest kind of argument, it shows absolutely no substance and only proves that you can't find a legitimate response to someone.
Race, religion or any type of bashing pertaining to that particular debate topic will receive infractions and post deletions.

Also, never get offended. You have opinions for a reason, and everyone has the right to one. Just because one person(or small group of people) don't agree with you, that doesn't mean you are a terrible person, or that you should change your ways. If it starts getting insulting, report the post to the staff, and we'll handle it. It only takes one good flame war from a few people to ruin the entire topic for everyone, so please be considerate of others.

4. Never Change Words Around
- If you know what your opponent means, never take it OUT of context and make it into something completely irrelevent to the topic. It's annoying and it's once of the ways a thread can burst into flames, and it also discredits you as a debater. Looking at the other side, always be clear in your arguments, make sure to get your point across at the end of your posts with a conclusion sentence, even a TL;DR will suffice for those that are reading and not participating.

Here are some other tips and pieces of advice:
  • Open your mind. If someone is debating strongly with you, take the time and consideration to understand where they are coming from, and their points. There must be some reason why they feel the way they do, right?

  • Short, sweet, to the point. Try to be clear and concise while debating. Don't drag on your posts based on one point, and reiterate it five times, when we all knew what you meant the first time. If someone asks you again for that information, point them above to your post.

  • Report it. If you think a post is strongly offensive and distasteful, report it. Don't flame back, it only further complicates the issue at hand. We will handle it.

  • This isn't for lightweights. Even though everyone has an opinion and the right to voice it, be warned that debates CAN get heated and intense. If you can't take the heat, get out of the kitchen, because we won't sit there all day and babysit. We aren't going to ban someone for saying your opinion is wrong. We will give out warnings and infractions for those who go into the section and stir up trouble however.

By reading these guidelines, you accept these rules outlined above, and try to be a presentable, and mature debater on MW2F.

Many thanks to Ninja for writing up these rules

This is getting repetitive.
