Haha way to bring back an "old" topic. Guns don't kill people, I kill People.

I'm against gun control- not only do I hunt, but my dad does. My grandfather taught gun safety classes for about 40 years. My great-grandfather was the oldest licensed hunter in my state as one time (he was 93). Unless your giving guns to white trash, gansters, or criminals, there's really no reason to restrict guns. If a major law were to be passed, this would be me->

Guns are fun. They are big boy toys. They are fun to collect and to shoot. I don't hunt. I have my concealed pistol license. But I have never carried a pistol. I don't own guns for protection. I feel perfectly safe. I don't hunt.

I have guns because I can. I like them. I live in a very liberal area. A hippy town, if you will. Lots of liberal, hippy types have guns. It's wrong to think that rednecks have guns. It's more accurate to think that rich people have lots of guns. As guns are very expensive.

Also, when I was a boy scout the adults carried guns when we did long hikes in the mountains. Starving bears and mountain lions will attack people.

If a person is responsible, and has no criminal record, they should be able to bear a firearm. Okay, I'm not saying one should be allowed to keep an AK-47 in their cupboard, but I mean, a handgun, or even a shotgun, should be allowed. I hate to bring the city I'm from up so often in these types of posts, but I have to. In Miami, there are way too many shootings and robberies for one to feel safe without keeping a weapon at home.

I think there needs to be control for any gun that you can conceal. Why the hell would anyone need a pistol when a shot gun works just fine. Heck it wouldn't even be that bad if you could get a shotgun that holds more than two shots just in case you have more than two people trying to break in your house. As for pistols the fact that the general public can get a gun that they can hide on their person is just plain dumb and there is no need for it. And as for full auto weapons they would be abused by criminals so they should never be legalized.

In Canada the cops actually recommend killing intruders and then arming them with things like kitchen knives if they weren't already armed since it is less trouble for you if the intruder is dead.

I think it's a paranoid hangover from WWII. We're aware of what happened in Nazi Germany. I think people feel that armed citizens would counter a rogue gov't, so a Nazi Germany type scenario would never happen here (in the US).

Of course that is a simple way of thinking that does not take into account many variables, and thus not necessarily accurate.

We also have alot of hunters here. Many American ancestors had to be good hunters as they moved west over lots of different types of terrain. So the hunting bloodlines have been passed down over the several generations.

The last point I would like to make is the human aspect. Even if one isn't "into firearms," if your neighbor has a shotgun, 2 hunting rifiles, hand gun, and assault rifle.... well you might feel more safe if you have a gun in your own hands. The mentality is "if you can't beat em, join em."

That is more or less what's going on in America I thinik.

I'm sick of hearing about shootings caused by plain stupidity.

For example, I just read about how a Newly-Wed couple wanted a photographer to take a photo of them with their rifles. They pointed the guns at him, one went off & shot him dead.

Anyone who has had military training or atleast knows how a gun works would tell you how stupid pointing a gun at someone is. The safety isn't full-proof. God knows how many cops have shot themselves in the leg...

Another example is when a kid (10 year old IIRC) shot himself in the face with an Uzi at a gun show. He couldn't control the recoil. What moron thought it was a good idea to give a kid an automatic pistol?

Ah but its in the constitution. So its fine for idiots to put other peoples lives at risk.

I'd suggest making military training a requirement for gun ownership, but I already know how many people would have a problem with that.

This is what is so wrong with society today. If you break the law and try to take what someone has earned with their own hard work, expect to get your ass handed to you.

I think we should allow gun control. If we take it away, the people who break the law in the first place will be the ones that will still have guns. If good law abiding citizens like yourself, and many who own guns, aren't allowed to have them as well, there will be that much less of a deterrent for committing crime.

That being said, some people are too stupid for their own good, like in the above post (the example, not you lol) and shouldn't be allowed to have guns. There should be a competence test of some sort, and if you fail you are too stupid to own a gun and in that case who cares if somebody breaks into your house, maybe it will just weed out the stupid lol.
