Ugh, what the hell? You're limited to USB headsets? That narrows your options then.

Go for Steelseries. Once again, much better than Turtle Beach in terms of performance/cost.

I wish I had good headsets. I feel like I'm at such a disadvantage not being able to listen to sound. But my parents would never buy me any and I don't have a job so.....

Okay, I'm impressed, but are they console compatible? All I saw was that they worked for Windows7, Vista, etc.

I have Turtle Beach Earforce X41. They're on the expensive side (like $230 maybe?) but WELL worth it. You can listen to music on these.

And with the X41 you're not limited to listening on your computer only

I think my buddy has these, they are 7.1 surround sound, wireless, etc. They are very awesome but pricey.

Default Headset?

Would headset (pressumably wireless, for some time I tried using earphones from mp3 player while playing at night to be a good neighbour, but it was extremely annoying) improve gaming experience much? Two perks (Ninja/SitRep) seem to pretty much depend on a headset, I cannot think of realistically being able to locate enemy based on footsteps based on sound from speakers standing next to monitor, much closer to each other than to me.

I rely on my headset a bit for games like search and destroy, except that so many people use Ninja Pro as a perk. I just enjoy hearing all the sounds going on, and it does help to know what direction a person is coming from. Plus if you want to start playing with friends, having a mic helps with the tactical stuff.

From worst to best IMO:
  • No speakers/headset (lol)
  • Stereo speakers
  • Simple headset
  • 5.1 surround sound speaker set
  • Headset with virtual surround upmix/(surround headset?)
To answer your question, yes, headphones are almost always better than speakers.

Default What headset to buy?

I do remember seeing a thread on the exact same topic but I can't find it and yes I tried searching for it.

So I play on the Xbox 360, and my headset that I got with the game recently broke, and so I'm planning on asking my mom to buy me a headset. It can't be that expensive or she won't let me get it. What headset is cheap, but still lets me hear footsteps and bombs well?

Its in the gaming section. Its called turtlebeachsbuyem.

Personally the only headets I've had have been the basic 360 set and the madcatz mw2 throught mic. I know that there are much better mics out there but I'd just rather spend the money on a new game. My buddy got some turtle beachs the other day and said their amazing. Said you can hear footsteps clear as day on the other side of the wall.

I have the Turtlebeach X11s. I would recommend them. They're only $60 and have a lot of good features. They're good to go right out of the box. I have heard that some of the better headsets require a pre amp or something like that. They have pretty good sound quality, not amazing. But considering they are only $60 and you still get the benefit of louder footsteps, I think they are a very good and practical headset.

Consoles suck for headsets.

The best on a budget is definitely X11s. If you have a little more, look at the Steelseries Siberia V2.

Buy a set of Sennheisers and splice the input for use with the 360. You can find guides online.

I got the Turtle beach X11's, good value for the money. If you like doing good but aren't gonna be going pro, get them for 50-60... Not the best of course, but IMO it's kinda senseless to spend over $100 on a headset, I can hear the footsteps all around me just fine

Default Need help on deciding a headset...

Title says all. The battle stands between:

Turtle Beach - Ear Force PX21 - NEW PS3 Headset
and
G35 Surround Sound Headset

Budget isn't really a problem, since I'll be getting it for my b-day or christmas (3 weeks apart), so just tell me which one is best, both comfort and quality-wise.
