The XBOX 360 exclusive MP demo is out now (I think it is available until the 5th of Feb), so head down to the M$ HQ and ask for it loaded onto some floppy disks (or use whatever other primitive console-oriented method of obtaining games not yet available in stores that you see fit to).

But seriously this is far more annoying than anything COD. I don't even play crysis but this is annoying. GT5 on xbox 360. Counter Strike & Starcraft on consoles. Forza 3 for PS3. GTA games on xbox (ah, opps) It's just wrong. Admittedly it's several million dollars wrong.

A 2nd 360 multiplayer demo will be taking place at the same time as the PC demo as Crytek have apparently taken in community feedback and fixed some issues with the last demo release. A PS3 demo has been confirmed and will release soon.

I never bothered with a Crytek MP because at the time we had COD4 and I CBA to sign up and create an account (what happened to just loading a game, choosing a save game profile and you're away? Rhetorical question I guess, "steamworks" and Live/PSN is the answer but now people like EA and Crytek are getting in on the act ) but will definitely play the demo just to see how beautiful Crysis 2 should look. 1920*1080, 4x AA and "ultra" settings here I come, I'll get 5 FPS but I'll just stand still and admire the choppily-swaying trees

It should run better than the previous titles and you won't find many trees as both the demo maps are set in NY (and not its Central Park, either) but one of them does have some greenhouses with plants in them.

Serious letdown. Un-expectedly high let down:

• Offensively blatant console port ("press start" to go to the main menu, "NAT Type - medium, CRYnet, join a match" and a lobby style system. Poor server browser btw. Only shows about 10 servers at once and you have to wait for it to finish refreshing every single one before being able to use it with relative ease.)
• Console port (max 6v6, toned-down graphics, dumbed down interface and menus)
• Crysis 1's gameplay was crap. let's be honest, it WAS crap. Graphics was the ONLY thing it was (rightly) known for. Crysis 2 will probably seem great on a shitbox 360 or a playstation 2006 but on PC it comes across as cartoony and, due to the lack of jungle no way near as impressive as the original.
• Options. What ARE options? Infact what are settings? You can, like, change how good the graphics are on other PC games. Well that's pointless, I don't see why we need that...
• Maps are MINISCULE. Forget anything you've seen recently. I'm talking maybe 3 times the area of shipment (COD4)
• Guns look spectacular. Screenshots look spectacular because it's extremely difficult to find a texture that is mapped instead of genuine, but it reality it's all boring concrete or plaster board walls.
• Physics are very poor (very thorough physics was a contributor as to why Crysis 1 ran so badly) explosions are in line with COD2 (non-directional. explode a grenade against a wall and the blast just goes from the floor up, not up AND also in the opposite direction to the wall. I believe MW2 claimed to do this) and bullet penetration is undramatic.

I feel my astonishment at the settings/options menu needs to be elaborated in order for people to believe me. Remember Crysis or Far Cry 1/2? Two (or was it three?) pages of this for people who need to fine tune (and let's face it - who doesn't need to fine tune performance on a crybadlyoptimisedtek engine!) PLUS a handy "overall" drop down menu for dumb people.



Now it looks like this. Graphics settings:

Resolution: 800x600, 1024x768, etc etc
fullscreen: yes/no
vsync: yes/no
Settings: gamer/advanced/hardcore

The end. No indication of what settings (filters, physics, textures) "gamer" or any other option yields. 1920*1080 and "hardcore" settings gave 15 FPS on a HD4830 so I'd have thought highest settings are well within the grasp of GTX 460s etc. It looks good, but it looks cartoony like Black Ops does.

Is it just me or is the 3D sound shite? I had someone shooting me point blank in the arse & I couldn't hear him. The killcam left me so confused.

The demo has some issues with surround sound, I know that when I use my G35 (which only has 7.1 unless I try removing its software and drivers) I get no sound at all. 5.1 should work but if it doesn't try stereo.

I'm holding off on rating the sound (and some other things) until the full game is released.

After looking at some tweaks others are making to their settings I've tried using the following:
+g_SkipIntro 1 (it skips the starting movies/logos)
+cl_fov X (replace X with your desired fov)
+pl_movement.power_sprint_targetFov X (see above, unless you want to game to use a different fov when you're sprinting)
+i_mouse_smooth 0 (turns off mouse smooth, I've never really figured out what mouse smoothening does but I don't like it)
+r_vsync 0 (I think you can change this in-game, too - so I don't have it in my shortcut)
+cl_crouchtoggle 0 (I like to hold down my crouch button to remain crouched)
+cl_hitblur 0 (I like to see things when being shot, it helps with shooting back)
+cl_hitshake 0 (being the durable and badass serval I am I can resist the forces of incoming bullets)
+r_motionblur 0 (blur is bad)

Incase you want to use my settings, create a shortcut to your Crysis 2 demo exe and in the target textbox (located via right-clicking and going to properties on the shortcut) put a space after the end " and then insert:

Edit: Alternatively you could download the program located here and when it's created it's batch file you can just edit that and insert the customisations you want (or just make your own file, should you know how).

It's possible but the Crysis 1 (singleplayer) demo included the full graphics options menu.

As far as the actual game goes, I love it. I think the maps are great, it looks and runs well. Might just buy it.
