Default EA to withdraw games from Steam

Will this affect your decision to purchase BF3?

EA Removes Recently Released Games from Steam | Piki Geek

EDIT: Seems the above website is currently down so here is a link to the Reddit discussion.

I'm assuming that you can add BF3 as a non Steam game but that hasn't been confirmed.

saw that Dirt 3 pc is only available on steam not cd. Strange that one developer goes one way then EA goes the opposite.
Though Codemasters may not be the best developer to put faith in at teh minute

I'm curious if publishers will be only releasing digital versions of their PC games in the future. There's something about having a physical copy that gives me peace of mind, in addition to the digital versions I have on Steam. What would happen if Steam went the way of Myspace and lost millions of users? Would we still be allowed to create back up discs should Steam go out of business? I doubt it would ever happen but you never know.

I know from speaking to lower end developers that a lot of the larger companies are really keen on going download only. Apart from the costs one of the main reasons they sight is second hand games. Developers hate this. This is why EA introduced the online pass for their games. Added to this the industries clamour to go Cloud based (especially pc side but not just. Cloud consoles are supposedly the way of the future). I see this trend continuing.
I read on the link you put that EA are making their own 'steam'. Not sure if this is viable in the long term just because of how many versions there will be if all the big developers want their own. Can't see EA changing their mind either though.

As for the backup issue. I can't see this being allowed in the future. I say allowed because of how grey and complex this area is. At least in the UK. Technically in the uk you are allowed to backup anything you bought original. This contradicts directly with the fact you are not allowed to break copy protection.

Wooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No more chances of "can't play a game because steam has decided to break"

This is getting repetitive.

abc, I'm curious to know how often Steam "breaks" on you? When I had a steady internet connection it seemed to occur rarely.
