Default Must-have PS3 titles

Past or present. Go. I'm struggling to get excited about PS3.

Black Ops' graphics genuinly shocked me
Driver: San Fransisco has a ridiculous plot
Resistance: Fall of Man makes BOps' graphics look good...
Not interested in GTA if you can't mess around with planes and helicopters
Not interested if it's not out yet!
Not interested in serious FPS (PC for COD, BF, Crysis etc)

PS2 just seemed so much better. NFSU, GTA:SA & SOCOM were revolutionary (customisation. sheer size. tactics.) SSX Tricky, Burnout Takedown, Timesplitters 2, Conflict: *insert war of choice here*, Metal Gear Solid 3, Vice City, "Black," Gran Turismo 3, Splinter Cell, Colin McRae, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater. They were all simply epic and provided years of exciting gaming.

PS2 was better.

To be quite honest, I can't really think of any apart from Uncharted 2, and I seldom play that, everything else that I play is multi-platform or FPS, which is already covered. If anything, I know God of War 3 was pretty good, and that's really all I can think of that isn't an FPS or upcoming. Uncharted 3 looks excellent, but as it's not out yet, you're not interested.

All I can advocate for in terms of GTA is that you can use the Sixaxis controller on vehicles. Which will promptly crash because the Sixaxis in GTA is a piece of shit and you might as well be drunk.

This.

But if I had to choose some PS3 titles:

KZ3 is pretty good. Not sure if that counts as a "serious FPS" though.

GTA:SA is probably the best for screwing around in helicopters and planes. GTA IV's graphics are better (not necessarily amazing however), but you cannot fly planes. GTA IV is my screwaround game as of recently.

LBP is surprisingly fun, although it seems like a game for little kids at first.

And if you're into the music games, RB3. RB (I'm So Sick by Flyleaf, Gimme Shelter by Rolling Stones, Welcome Home by Coheed and Cambria) and RB2 (Panic Attack by Dreamtheater, Our Truth by Lacuna Coil) only have a few decent songs IMO (those in parentheses).

RB3 gets all of the DLC nowadays, along with a better music setlist and the music track itself (not grid-like as in RB and RB2)

Does GTA 4 have apaches still? Is it as 'mess around' as previous games e.g. Tanks, cheats etc.

I think they got awful reviews, how does skate 3 etc compare to pro skater 3, 4, underground etc?

Surprised & disappointed there are no ps2 titles available for Dl on PSN.

Skate 3 is good, not tried pro skater 3 though. Underground sucked imo, lost all the class of the first few titles.
I like GTA IV but it is not the same 'mess around' as previous titles at all. GTA episodes is a much better title. Much more like the feel of GTA. No Apache but in the balad of gay tony from episodes the tone is bang on you get a little bird (rockets and guns), skydiving, funnier story. same city and you can replay the missions at will upon completion. The other story isnt as good (bit like sons of anarchy if you have seen it). shorter than Iv but cheaper too. Was disappointed with IV, love episodes from.
Also have you tried Heavy Rain.
Driver SA is a silly plot and a daft game mechanic but i like the driving, feels very 70's muscle car from tv and film. Only played the demo though.
and yes, I high res GTA:SA should be on PSN, its a crime that they haven't done that yet.

EDIT: LA Noir

Yeah, if you're looking to mess around, the TBoGT DLC for GTA IV is the best one. There is a tank (APC) and an AH-6 Little Bird (Buzzard), along with cheats like Super punch and explosive sniper ammo. Base jumping is also fun.

TLaD DLC is actually my favorite, but doesn't lend itself to messing around. Though this DLC and the actual game have the UH-60 Blackhawk (Annihilator).

Definitely go in Free Mode if you wanna screw around, just change your settings so that Friendly Fire is off. There's always at least one asshole with an RPG in any given game.

If you do get PS3 and GTA IV, I'll gladly play. No one on my friends list plays GTA IV.

You should get MLB '11 The Show and NCAA Football and BC2 and play with me.

It's criminal that (as far as I'm aware) they only made one backward-compatible version of the PS3 way back when (to Ps2 I mean, i'm aware PS1 games will play), I don't think they even offer that nowdays which is stupid. it's long past the product life-cycle stage where that kind of thing is worth holding back, if anything they need to start including it as standard.

As far as Ps3 exclusives go, they don't seem to have hit the mark much this time round, it's a list of 'nearlys'.
Gran Turismo Prologue promised much but never delivered.
Tomb Raider sold out to all and sundry, losing it's uniqueness in the process.
Uncharted was great but I found it lacking that something special second time round.
Heavy Rain did the whole 'realism' thing up a good notch but still failed in a few key areas.
LBP was pioneering and much more adult-inclusive than expected, LBP2 seemed a lazy extension.
If you google 'PS3 exclusives" it's actually a woeful list at present.

So GTA 4 + DLC is about as PS2 as it gets, will consider that.

Colts, not really interested in NBA/MLB/American football as an English person! Got BC2 on the PC thanks and I really enjoy it.

I'll try to find some demos for the games mentioned. Also it doesn't have to be an exclusive, just don't suggest Forza lol... But it does have to be out now or I can't buy it!

GTA IV and DLC can be purchase two ways. You can buy the original game and then just buy the dlc, or you can buy as a stand alone title. If you buy it as a stand alone on disc you don't need the original. Pretty much the same price, but you may be able to get the disc from a shop cheaper than the DLC now. Unless you particularly want the original I would get them this way.

Oh really? Thanks for that, PSN has always struck me as expensive anyway (who wants to pay like £17.99 for MOH Frontlines?) even when you don't consider the sales that Steam has. I guess that's somethings PS3 is missing.

You don't seem to be able to go and pickup a handful of really good 1 or 2 year old games at £15 each or w/e. Over the years COD, SSX tricky, DiRT etc are some of my best purchases and were all bought for between £5 and £20!

Yes, psn store takes the piss sometimes. I bought the map pack for cod4, after bo game out and I still had to pay full price. It's wrong. I paid about £24 for the episodes from game.
@Jomick, Traded GTA IV i'm afraid but i'll play episodes online if you like.

That's when it helps to have the GoTY edition, like I do. Thing takes forever to download, though.

And I would, but my new account doesn't have the episodes. That was my old one. No clue if and when I might get them on this one.

Colts used to play GTA IV. No clue about right now.

Batman Arkham City 1st one was great. This should be an absolute blast. The combat is so nice. Flows like a ballet. Makes you feel like batman.

Drakes Fortune 3 Again fist 2 were great. Second was an improvement on the first hopefully this will continue. It looks great.

Also, I have since bought a new & boxed GTX 460 (seemed to be the next thing down from a 6850) for the amusing sum of £59 + VAT. Games are now prettier.
