Default BF3 Beta Reviews

Thought we could share our experiences.
Will do one for ps3 when I try that.
Comparisons are with console games only.
XBOX

Okay, I've been playing for a while now, so thought I would share, and try and persuade a few more of you cod players to come to the dark side
First off, It looks great. Far better than any other game out or coming out in this genre with the possible exception of Killzone. It really does look good though. The lighting effects in the tunnell are great, particularly the torches and laser sights. The contrast between daylight and darkness in the tunnel is well done and makes it feel like a completely different level to what we have had in the past. The guns are good and are now tailored to each side. So Americans get M16's and M4's etc while Russians get AK's. I prefer this method, adds something to being on a side. The guns fire nicely and you can now switch between single and auto fire, and have that popping bubble wrap feel about shooting them that cod has. It just feels nice to shoot. Shooting though is where it is going to turn off the cod kill whores out there. It takes real skill to get kills at anything other than close range in this game. You can't just mash the trigger like cod and get a kill. The recoil will make sure of that. You can't even rapidly tap the trigger like bc2. This is far more realistic and requires short controlled bursts to get the kill. This is one of the fundamental differences between the two games. As this is an infantry only map I cant tell you about the vehicles as there aren't any, so on to the next biggest difference. The movement. In previous fps games, apart from a running effect, it feels like you are looking through camera on rails. When you lie down for instance, the camera just lowers down. even when you dolphin like bo's it still doesn't feel real. The movement in this is much better. When you cump over a wall, the movement is very realistic and seeing your legs skip over adds to the feeling that your there and not controlling an avatar. Same with going prone and standing up. It feels like you are actually doing it as you put your hand on the floor to stand up. When you are sprinting and drop to prone, you can fire almost immediately but your bullets will just fly off to the side. You have to wait a small amount of time before being able to shoot the guy in front. So it should please people who hate drop shotting. Actually I like this too and I am a drop shotter.
This is a beta not a demo so there are bugs to be ironed out, but I urge you to at least try this game when it comes out. Like I said, it won't convert everyone and thats fine. Still have nothing against cod (apart from blops obviously), but personally. I think this is going to blow MW3 out of the water. Very impressed.

Why would I read your review when you state right at the beginning that you aren't impartial?

Not my point.

Most people won't read anything when it is evidently clear from the beginning that it is not fit for purpose. Therefore, people who want to read a review of the game won't read yours. Therefore, you may have wasted your time.

Just sayin'.

I think it looks amazing on PC, it's not bad, but honestly, it can be soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo slow paced at times. Some glitches in it but I suppose you expect that in a beta.

That's because nobody knows how the map is. It always happens with new maps of any kinds, people just camp.

Oh and you can also thank prone for that also.

You play SnD and you complain about it being slow? O_o Sure it can be a bit "slow" at the start of a round but it gives you more time to think about your plan of attack. That's why a lot of people call this a tactical shooter more-so than CoD.

As a recent convert I reckon the different pace is one of the big selling points. I'm really enjoying the way the pace escalates towards the end, although I have found the opening minutes can be a bit boring if you're not playing with friends.

Downloading the beta on 360 ATM. First time playing any BF game, but I'll say how it is later on.

Feels and plays, to me, a lot like MAG. Which really isn't too great of a game.

That was referring to recoil. If you fast tap the fire button in cod/bc2 the recoil doesn't continue to rise. In BF3 if you fast tap the recoil will rise the same as if you were firing full auto. You have to wait for the recoil to settle before the next burst to stop this.

Not liking it?

As of right now, not the biggest BF fan. And I from 2 matches I have about 2 kills and 30 deaths.

And yes, even though I said it isn't a great game I'm actually DL'ing the update and then going to play. And on J_d_M_c_ I was mainly Raven, this go I'll be either Raven or possibly Valor. What one are you in (I'm assuming you have it)?

I frigging love M16A3, M4A1, and mainly the M249. The map in the beta is alright. The frigging players need to stop worrying about god damn kills instead of the objectives.

I like MAG, but there are so few good games. My team are usually tards and I end up spawning dying spawning dying I usually turn it off. I do really enjoy it when its good. Just happens so rarely.

To you bold in the quote: Yeah, I'm not amazing at Halo either. Though I have those games where I go 31-4 in Snipers Pro (other 3 went like 8-12, 7-9 and 4-21)

And so you're on Valor? I'll join that if that's the case.

EDIT: I'm actually doing Raven again.

EDIT 2: Tried BF3 on both PS3 and 360. Not a fan of it on either, the only gun I could kind of use was the beginning MG for the American side. Lost every game, and just couldn't get used to the feel of it.

And that's saying something, considering Skuh saw how I was doing in MAG before (which as I said has a similar feel to BF3 but there's just something different)

If you're (doing) crap in BF it's generally because you're trying to play it like COD.

It's not a case of whoever reacts first wins (regardless of range, weapon, perks etc) like in COD. It's about whoever sees the other first, whoever has the most appropriate weapon and whoever is in cover. You can't evade bullets by jumping/dodging/diving like you can in COD. Actions aren't instant (you don't stop/start/turn/ADS virtually instantly like in COD) and so you can't regularly make up for bad judgement with good reactions.

Honestly I can run around all day in any COD game in the most obvious direction with the worst gun, pointless perks doing random 360s and still go 30 - 5 without using a chopper gunner etc.

In COD your "class" defines your weapon. In BF your class defines your job.

Your weapon is practically there for self defence, you get far more points for healing/fixing/commanding/destroying-objectives/planting/defusing/supplying/flying/assisting/driving/damaging-vehicles/damaging-objectives than you could ever get just looking at your KD. BF requires you to think about the bigger picture. It IS worth not getting two easy kills just so that your squad can spawn on you behind enemy lines without a big red dot on the map and two corpses. It is worth dying whilst designating artillery on a tank or sticking a tracer dart on a heli.
COD is a deathmatch, sometimes with a flag in the middle. BF is an objective game.

COD owner - COD expansion pack owner - COD2 owner - COD2: BRO player - COD3 owner - COD4 owner - COD:WaW owner - COD: MW2 owner - COD: BO owner

This is getting repetitive.

I haven't really tried to play it like CoD. As I've said I play it like MAG, where I regularly used cover and the like. However, it might just be my reaction time for BF, but even if I see the guy first, I'm normally dead before I can even aim.
