Default Does DICE fail at creating a balanced online game?

DICE has recently released Battlefield Bad Company 2. You can buy two versions normal or limited edition, the limited edition gives you some special features online:
  • Vechile motion sensor
  • Increase vechile armour
  • M1A1 submachine gun
  • Vechile alternative fire
  • Tracer dart gun
  • M1911 gun

heres a video of them in action Battlefield: Bad Company 2 - GAME.co.uk

Now to me it looks like DICE cares more about money then the online gaming experience of the majority.

Wow that's so unfair to the people who don't have the limited edition.

They've done this before the the first bad company marketing campaign, but it wasn't this bad. Probably one of the reasons why I'll be staying away from Bad Company 2.

That's pretty lame. If IW did that with MW2, giving plays the 47u, G36, and the M40, I'd be pissed.

Well, it's partly EA's fault. EA made them release some of those things in Limited Edition only.

Mirror's Edge > All....

EDIT: Plus, some of those things dont help much.

I have the Limited Version; the vehicle ones can only have one chosen at a time, and the weapons (M1911, Thompson, Tracer Darts) are still available to "normal" players, just they have to be unlocked via rank up.

Though, yes, the whole thing is a stupid. Particularly grating is the fact that that M1911 completely bones the M9 (default sidearm... for quite a bit of time), and the Thompson is usable on all classes (meaning you don't have to snipe to unlock the snipers, or the Medic isn't stuck with an ass-long reload). It's apparently as powerful as the AEK-971 (default assault rifle).

So... yeah. Though compared to other complaints about the game (hit detection still seems iffy, "body armour" which apparently lets you survive 3-4 more bullets, and that it takes just so damn long to refresh the server list), these are minor.

as Naga said all these things are unlockable by regular users. I don't see it as that much of a problem to be honest. If you pay more for a limited edition you're entitled to these "imbalances" because you paid for it. I suspect many people ordered the limited edition without knowing about the unlocks or even having tested the game. They ordered it out f faith and this should also be rewarded.

as far as balance go can you really say mw2 is any better?

does dice fail at making a balanced online game? possibly, though after a few weeks everyones on te same playing field, as their is no prestige option

did IW fail with MW2 in terms of it's online mechanics and the game as a whole becaus they released neither a beta nor a demo and directly porting from console to PC? Yes.

In terms of what MW2 could have been it is a great failure

I agree with you 100%, I have the limited edition and it really does not make a difference.
I got a nice theme and gamer picture that I´ll never use.
I don´t use vehicles unless its a quad or jeep and I just use the extra armor. The Thompson is not that good but the M1911 is a beast but has a low magazine size so you need to make your shots count.

There are no balancing issues and the only time you will suffer in this game is if you have a bad team.
In MW2 1 person can win the match for you.

BC2 takes skill and is not just a point your gun and shoot.
The weapons stats stay true to what it says in the game and not some made up bullshit.
Weapons have recoil so you cant spray like a mad man.
The movement of your character is affected by what weapon you are holding.
The game is built on solid team work and you need snipers, medics, engineers and ammo runners.
The maps are so big and change all the time, so the game is always different and not always the same like MW2.
Expect something different each time you play.

I will be playing BC2 for a very long time whilst MW2 gets very dusty on my game shelf.

I'd take this over no mods, no dedicated servers, no console, no record function, no lean, etc... any day.
And like naga said, it isn't even thát bad.

I'd also like to mention it gives an incentive for you to buy the limited edition. They are a business afterall as much as we hate it.

Yes, that is immensley unfair. Does it matter? no, because BF is fun not competitive. COD on the other hand was competitive till they made it fun. But anyway,

That looks stunning.

Furthermore... Battlefield, welcome back to the home of FPS gaming...

When Game has it in stock - I r order.

I have BC2, purchased yesterday and have only managed to play the first couple of missions. Flicked the online multiplayer on to see 'how it compared' and I felt exactly the same as when I first played MW2 online, bloody fast and I died a lot......

Every game has faults and issues and if all games played the same then wouldnt all gaming be a load of shite..........

I bought the bog standard version and dont mind that the limited edt has extra features some of which I'll have to play the game to unlock but its just like MW2 having to unlock all the perks and weapons isnt it ???? I'm really enjoying the game and how it plays, it wont stop me playing MW2 and my attempt at reaching lv70.......
