tried to ask this in the BC2 forum but the answer got lost in the shuffle:

when i jon a game, i'm only presented with a selection of some
kind of assault rifle / nade launcher.

i've looked for a way to switch to sniper or engineer,
but can't find a way so far.

do i have to unlock the other classes, or am i missing a
screen selection somewhere? -duh?-

when you first join a game you should have your class creation open. Press down on your D-Pad and it should go to engineer. down again goes to medic then down again goes to recon.

Assault = assault rifles
engineer = Smgs
Medic = Lmgs
Recon = sniper

What platform? The PC has a different menu interface to the consoles.

mate just simply click on the other class title with your mouse, then you gain the ability to customize it from there.

maybe that's the point i'm trying to make:

i don't SEE any other designations or classes, even after expanding the "weapon selection" screen.

all i see is the starting wep for the assault class and the pistol,
nothing else?

I think you will find that a server side problem IE the admins have locked the weapons choice which is against the there server rental agreement I had about 6 servers doing that to me the other day so i just gave it an hour until my clan members where ready to play our server then played our own server with about 20 friends

having learned from MW2, in frustration i went to the game properties tab for BC2, and had it verifiy local game content.

it found one corrupt file - failed to validate - and re-downloaded BC2 for the fix.

after that i switched game types to Rush etc qand started seeing other weapon selections in the menu selection when i joined some servers!! :-)

going back to Team Squad DM, i still joined servers which seemed to have only the basic assault rifle in the selection.

but on the same map i swear i saw an rpg fly by??

i'll have to hope the history function's working so i can find those servers
again...
