From the Atari 2600 to Playstation 3, we have grown into a society that considers gaming to be an entertaining pasttime. Lord knows how many games have been made between the past and present but no matter how many have been made or how many we've played, there is always one game that stands out in our minds as the best. Whether it was based on an excellent story or fond memories of duking it out with friends in multiplayer, we have all come to some sort of decision on the one we'd pick if a gun was put to our heads. So what is it? What is your pick, or picks if you can't decide on just one.
It's such a tough decision but i think i've narrowed it down to five: Bioshock (360/PS3) Gears of War (360) Perfect Dark (N64/XBLA) Zelda Ocarina of Time (N64/Wii Ware?) God of War (PS2/PS3) Out of those five if i could only play one for the rest of my life, i'd have to go with Perfect Dark. To me it was the finest multiplayer experience you could have till the likes of Halo and Counter Strike. Perfect Dark let you do almost anything you wanted. You could customize the characters, weapons in the map, music thats playing in the match, simbot difficulty/team set up and the list just goes on. As a full package game experience could go it was just perfect for me. Great single player, stellar multiplayer and the ability to just waltz around the carinton institute for challenges and the weapon range. Well thats my pick, whats yours?

By no means do I think they are the best or best in their class, but these are the few that stand out for me as timeless favorites.
Arcade: Street Fighter II - fantastic memories playing this with friends back in the day. My parents used to hire a proper arcade machine for the weekend of my birthdays back in the early 90s when the game was popular, and we would have a blast. PC: System Shock II - made by the guy who designed Bioshock (Ken Levine). Similar in a way to bioshock but much much better game - less dumbed down with, more atmosphere and things to do. Almost everything in Bioshock in terms of game mechanics and the atmosphere of the world are present in System Shock 2 and more. Released in 1999. Console: Super Metroid (SNES) - I played this for the first time only a few years ago after I bought a SNES on ebay for shits and giggles. Amazing game, and unusual for a 16 year old game to be so gripping even without the nostalgia factor. |

I have only really just got into gaming in the last Year and a half, the first game I ever played was Gears Of War 1, only Multiplayer though, Played a bit of campaign but not alot. Then moved onto Gears Of War 2 where I played Multiplayer and a hell of a lot of campaign, overall it was really good, then got a bit bored and moved onto Call Of Duty where I played Call Of Duty World At War first, getting tenth Prestige, then decided to play Call Of Duty 4 where I got addicted and reached tenth Prestige there too. Now currently on MW2 on Prestige 9 with campaign Completed and Special Ops.
Overall Gears Of War 2 gets the favourite game campaign. Call Of Duty for it's epic Multiplayer. Looking forward to Gears of War 3 in April 2011.

4 games in reverse order.
4. Rick Dangerous - This was 2 games but I'm not bothered which. It was a platformer on Amiga and ST, very funny Indiana Jones rip off. 3. Moderen warfare 2 - Many many faults obviously, but I love this game. SP and MP 2.Gran Turismo - The last one of this mythical racer (car porn what can i say) 1. GTA San Andreas - The greatest game of all time. The longevity, the variety. Still think nothing has come close. |

I myself, have really had a limited gaming past. I didn't really get into it until my Dad bought the family a Playstation back in the 90s. Not that I remember much of it, though.
Since then I've owned only a PS One, a PS2 and now a PS3 and a PC, although I have spent quite a bit of time on the original Xbox and and now 360 with some friends. Another +1 for GTA:SA here. For me, that game was mind-blowing. The first time I played it, I was like "Wow, why can't all games be like this". There was just so much fun to be had. I don't think I ever completed that game, as once I had got far enough to go anywhere I wanted, I pretty much did. I can't believe COD4 hasn't been mentioned on here yet. Or any of the earlier games in the series for that matter. COD4 was the first FPS that I really loved. I don't really need to go into detail as to why it was a great game, although the SP was a little short. But, I played it for over 2 years. Surely that has to mean something? I know some people may disagree, but IMO Fallout 3 was another great game. I know it probably doesn't deserve a place amongst the all-time greats that we've already spoken of, but it is certainly one of the best action-RPGs of this generation. So much to do and so much fun to be had in that game and I know I pretty blown away. I played over 120 hours in total, and I only payed £20.

I'm actually surprised about that as well and now feel like a peice of shit for not mentioning it. ![]() I know some people may disagree, but IMO Fallout 3 was another great game. I'm sure many people would agree with you (plus it's your opinion, that's the point of the thread). I myself find Fallout to be way over my head with how much can be done and prefer the "watered down" Borderlands. I felt the missions and objectives were more orginized and easier for a to understand. Not to mention the multitude of weapons in it. What . . . . i like gun porn.[/QUOTE]

I eventually stopped playing Fallout 3 because, ironically, I ran out of things to do after all that time I spent. It was certainly time well spent though. There was just so much to do, and so much to find. The DLC, I admit, wasn't as good as the rest of the game though, sadly.
Borderlands did look pretty interesting, but I never really got around to buying it amongst everything else. I may see if I can find it cheap somewhere now though, as I heard it quite a favourite with some people here and back on C4F.

Favorite fighter? Sub-Zero was my personal favorite since the dawn of the series.
