Default fps training?

mmmkay, recently I just got a PC that can run games well, I've got some fpses already: CoD4, CoD5, Counter strike source, B:BC2, crysis, crysis warhead, crysis wars, far cry 2, far cry, bioshock 2....I have quite a few already (darn you steam!), but which games would you consider 'true' fps? What games are there that can significantly improve my game play all around? Which are known for being balanced, competitive or even more skillful? etc...

I've heard some people mention Quake, but I have no idea where to start with that lol. Steam has some great deals, and my budget at the moment ain't a problem.

I'm not particularly in tune with the PC gaming environment right now, so could use some guidance, games, tips, tutorials even lol. But my main aim - to get good! PC gaming is vastly different from what I've seen so far, and a lot of my old tactics have gone out of the window because not everyone is a noob!

Sorry for being incredibly vague.

I haven't personally played it but I know a lot of the community think that Counter Strike 1.6 still has the most skilful/competitive scene.

What Dante said.

It has a steeper learning curve because of that thou.

But if get good with that, you're good to go for every other FPS out there.

Okay, I'll try and get good at that first. I'd already tried before but kinda gave up 'cos I got owned. One thing I noticed is that they have noticeably better reactions than most players. Thanks for the advice!

COD4 is still going pretty strong and is a good place to start. It's where I have started honing my skills.
