Default Native Steam Client available for OS X

For anyone out there with a Mac who's interested, Valve have released a native Steam client for OS X.

As well as the various Valve games such as HL2 and CS:Source on the way, there are (so far) about 50-60 other games with new releases coming every week.

A list of launch titles on this page: Steam for Mac now available, 57 launch games including free Portal, and LucasArts classics -- Joystiq

While the catalogue of games in general is rather weak on the Mac compared with the PC, the introduction of Steam combined with the rising marketshare may help move things along.

As for me, if I can run CS:Source natively on a Mac, then I have absolutely no reason to keep my Windows partition. yay!

AND take advantage of the entirely free download of Portal until May 24th, on Mac and PC!

Nibbles once you've gotten it all sorted out, and if you happen to D/L MW2 add me!

Will do! though that raises an interesting question - I am wondering if PC / Mac users are segregated. I hope not, and hope I can use my old Windows steam account again.

Will try it out tonight

EDIT: Apparently any titles purchased in the past (or any time) on the PC will be available when you log into the Mac client (if they are Mac compatible) so no need to repurchase stuff. Yay for Valve! Here's hoping the friend / buddy list system is cross platform also as well as multi-player games.

EDIT x2: Seems to work, and I have sent you an invite! I doubt MW2 will ever be ported to the Mac but heres hoping future titles are.... or we could all just play CS

Its a little buggy but seems to work.. kinda like the original clunky steam client when it was launched / bundled with HL2.

Seems to be a truly cross platform system - all my old games on this account are available. I guess it will be up to developers to determine whether PC & Mac players can co-exist in the same games but it seems that Valve are promoting this direction which is definitely the way it should be.

Too bad the servers are "too busy to download Portal" though
