Default OG Gamers:

I know that there's a few of you on here. Even if you're a relative "young one", talk about how you got into gaming and the first games that you got into.

For me, I first got into gaming around 1988. (Damn I'm old) First gaming system was an Atari 2600 playing Solaris, Dig Dug, and Ms. PacMan. Atari was hooked to the TV with U-shaped "plugs" that went to the antenna leads, the controller had a joystick and one button. Very old school stuff.

Around the same time started playing NES at my friends houses, Super Mario Bros, Legend of Zelda, and Mike Tyson's Punch Out were the hot games of the day. Finally got a NES of my own around 1990, played a lot of Zelda, Tecmo Super Bowl, and Final Fantasy I. Around the same time just about every corner store and gas station had video and NES rentals. $2 for 2 days game rental. Which was good, because a lot of the NES games were really really shitty and not worth spending $40 to buy.

Had a Super Nintendo for awhile in Jr. High, played a lot of SimCity and Final Fantasy II and III. Still love those games and play them on emulators to this day!

Got a PS1 in 1998, never got into it much except for the Final Fantasy games. Gran Turismo also.

Finally got a PS2 in 2004, mostly just played GTA: San Andreas and Final Fantasy VII-XI

Upgraded to PS3 during X-Mas 2009, been playing CODMW2 ever since!

First console was a NES. Owned pretty much everything else up from there with the exception of PS1, it was my brothers.

I've never owned an Xbox or a 360.

HELL YEAH!!!

Perfect Dark is still my favorite game. I still play it on my N64 every now and then.

My first system was a Gameboy and my first game was Donkey Kong. It was all over from there.

I got the NES when it came out, my mom bought it for my sister and I. I think I was 6-7 years old. Loved the crap out of Duck Hunt, but we would cheat and put the gun up to the TV and shoot em up. Life Force, Castlevania, Zelda and Cabal are my all time favorite NES games. I had 2 systems and a shit load of games, tried to sell em but my little sister put a stop to that so they are still in the family.

Had the first Playstation that came out, played a lot of Tony Hawk but I had bought it for my b/f and when we split, he kept it.

Started playing COD4 on PC when it came out, roomies taught me how to play. Bought W@W didn't play it much, continued to play the ever loving shit out of COD4, then bought MW2 2 months after it came out because I gave up on the boycott. Buying Battlefield this weekend and failed to install Crysis due to not having serial number.

Well, my first exposure to video games was to Doom 1 and 2 on my parent's computer (my older brother's game) and also Duck Hunt on the NES (again, my brother's).

As I grew up, I went over to a friends house an awful lot and played Donkey Kong and stuff on his S-NES. That and Paperboy and Mario Kart haha. I ended up getting my own NES around this time too for dirt cheap, and had a bunch of Mario games, Star Wars games and a few others.

Some time later I played a little game called Goldeneye at a friends house. I was hooked. After a while of begging my parents, my dad finally bought me an N64 with Goldeneye and Zelda: Ocarina of Time. My other most played titles for that system were Rogue Squadron, Rush 2, and any NHL/NFL game that was current. About a year or two later (rough estimates) I played Team Fortress Classic on a friends computer. I ended up getting Half Life 1 and TFC as a result of that (plus Blue Shift and Opposing Force). I started out with a 28.8k modem connection and a computer that landed me a constant 2-3FPS. I eventually started playing Counterstrike, after a few months of which I was able to upgrade to not only 56k... but a slightly better computer (we are talking 10-15FPS!!!). Oddly enough I saw my highest pings with the 56k, as AOL sucks. Highest ping I ever saw was in TFC... it was in excess of 25-30 THOUSAND. Text was delayed by whole MINUTES, not even kidding.

Finally my dad upgraded to Verizon DSL and I got another new computer, one that could handle 70+FPS. My word I was living in a dream. Some time later I ended up getting an Xbox for titles like Halo, Splinter Cell, and GTA:3/Vice City.

Lets see here... ended up switching from Counterstrike to CS:S... got sick of it after a few years and moved to World of Warcraft. I finally kicked that addiction a few months ago and decided to pick up MW2 as I had played it on the PS3 at a friends house and recalled that sweet, sweet feeling that I had playing Goldeneye and Halo, those sorts of jump-in-and-have-a-blast games.

There were plenty of other games I played briefly here and there (the rest of the BF series minus 2142, CoD2, etc) but I'd rather not sit here for God knows how long attempting to rack my brain for that one game I played for 3 days.

My first system was an N64, which I was my only game system up until a few years ago when I got a computer and my parents gave away my N64 and games away to Goodwill (I was pissed about this because they didn't even ask me). I got a PS2 after the 360 was released. I got it for Christmas one year, and that's the last system I have personally owned. The Xbox 360 I currently play on doesn't belong to me. It is my nephew's and soon he'll move away and I'll no longer have a game system, aside from my computer.

My favorite N64 games were:
Perfect Dark
SSB
Spiderman

I could play those all day.

For nostalgic purposes, I am thinking about buying Perfect Dark from the Xbox LIVE arcade for $10.

First console i owned was an Xbox and Halo 1 was da bomb. Got a few games for that. Then a few years ago I got a 360 but didn't have live because we still had dial-up =/. Then last summer we got broadband so i bought a live subscription. Thus COD4 MP entered my life. Now just this pat week I invested in a PS3 and now have the ability to play with more people online.

My first console ever was the Sega Megadrive III, and my first ever game was Sonic The Hedgehog 2, those were happy gaming days.

I have a Sega Emulator on PC with ~1000 games that I still play today

I've been playing since practically birth. Started from the NES, to the SNES, to a gamboy color, to a ps2(everything at this point had belonged to my brothers), then got myself a gba, then a gamecube. My bro got a wii, and then I bought a 360. And about 9 months ago I bought a slim ps3 with two controllers and two very bad games(all for $200) and its been sitting on a dresser the whole time.

All in all, I've always been playing games and having a good time in doing so.

First game system I had, I cannot recall the name but it was a console with a bunch of built in sports games that involved moving a line to bounce a square into a goal, and several variations of that... would have been about 1983 or so.

First proper home video game I remember playing was space invaders on a 2600 at my aunties house 1984ish when I was about 6. Shortly after, we had an MSX spectravideo machine and then in 86 my dad bought an Amstrad CPC6128 (If you havent heard of it, its kinda like a Commodore 64 - same generation anyway).

First PC we got in 1991 which was a 368 DX 40 - thats 40mhz baby, 2MB of RAM that we upgraded to 4. Even had a math co-processor! Back when PCs actually felt like machines, "user friendly" meant that you had to edit config.sys and autoexec.bat for every game you wanted to play, and you had a turbo button

Since then it has been a mix of the PC and consoles, starting with the NES, Playstation, PS2, and Gamecube, with PC upgrades along the way. In about 2005-6 I started playing WoW on the Mac (which I had adopted in about 2005 as preference over the PC platform) but I dropped WoW about 8 months ago and it has been PS3 pretty much ever since. I also have a Nintendo Wii.

I still have all the consoles I have ever owned and bought a SNES and Atari 2600 on eBay a few years back - still play them from time to time.

464 built in tape drive and multi coloured keyboard. I did see a Disk version ONCE. Never saw any games for it though.

Nevermind waiting half an hour to load games via a tape drive - *that* is a proper computer.

Disk model 6128.. ah the memories.

And the 3" disks.. 178KB per side IIRC.

I remember these - I thought it was amazing that they had
a) coloured keys
b) a built-in tape/disk drive. That was the business.

My old BBC electron had an external tape drive, used to sound like an old 56k modem when it was loading games. Then when the ...wait for it...... 8" floppy disks came out..... wow.

Skuh - looks like this thread is prime hunting ground for new SOGSYNTH members......
