If you're unfamiliar with what it is heres a link to their website.

Welcome to OnLive.com

I was wondering what you guys thought of it. There are a lot of things to consider with this type of technology.

Personally, i don't like it.

I like the idea of playing on a server and having it steamed back to you, but that all requires an internet connection. When i'm playing MW2 online, and the connection goes out, i can still play spec ops or pop something else in and still be able to play games.

Something else i do not like one bit is the digital distribution. Call me old fashioned but i like having a physical copy of my game/movie in hand. I like being able to read the back, look at the cover and have a physical reference to the game when i'm not playing it other than a name. I'm also a little ocd so i'm sure that has something to do with it.

Lastly, their saying those who sign up initially will be playing for free for the first year (aside from the cost of the games) and after that the monthly charge will be instated. I find that ridiculous. Not only are we spending $60 on the games already, but now this company is trying to get you to spend money monthly just to play the games you've already purchased?

I think it's all a bad idea and i'm just worried what will become of used video game shops in the next decade if this thing takes off and becomes a hit. Maybe i'm not a fan of change or maybe i'm not the only one, but this one just doesn't sit right with me.

I thought the idea was you pay as you play. Like the model some pc games have taken (city of heroes). You don't pay for the game you just pay a subscription. This model has cost my friend several hundred pounds for a single game. In my eyes ridiculous.
Personally. I don't care for it too much. Unless you are in South Korea or somewhere (there net connections are astonishingly good) it just isn't practical. Apart from isp going down etc, in Britain not everyone can get the net yet (unbelievable I know) yet alone the connection speeds some people have. I also like having a physical copy, and like the fact I can play games without a connection. I personally don't see this taking off until at least the next generation of consoles, if ever. Long term this and cloud technology are going to get pushed more and more, but we need to improve our technology (the consumers and providers) massively to make them a viable alternative to the masses.
