Default Cross Game Chat

With talk of PlayStation Plus around the web, a lot of people have been complaining that PSN doesn't have Cross Game Chat, something Xbox have.

Now, I assume it does exactly what it says and means you can talk to people on your friendlist in other games. Which doesn't seem that good to me. With a USB keyboard and the textchatroom's you can do the same thing without it interupting the game.

What I'm wondering is, is it any use? Or are people just complaining because they can't use it to cheat at games on PSN?

My friends and I use it to organize games or to just casually talk to each other. So it does have some uses but its not really a deal breaker IMO.

I would like this, and would find it useful although nothing I can't get round anyway but if it does go on the premium service. Not Interested.

Or move onto pints of spirits, you need to fill them much less often......
O/T - never played xbox, does this cross-chat mean that 2 people playing s&D for example can still talk when one is alive and another dead, by circumventing MW2's own chat?
I know PC players can do that, didn't think it happened on console.

Don't know about that, but you can talk with someone on another game such as uncharted while playing MW2. Or at least that was the intent of the playstation version.

This is a great feature that I would hate to lose. Not so much about talking to people in separate MW2 games as this only happens when they first get on. If we want to talk and play MW2 then we'll probably be in the same game. It is nice though when folks are playing different games, kinda like when I mess around in AC2 and talk to my friend on MW2.

I know in COD4 we could do this, hell I was partied up with a guy on the other team as well and we were all helping each other on where our respective teammates were at when we died! lol, so much for teamwork.

I think you guys are missing the entire point of providing the PSPlus service.

Cross Game Chat means sucking up a lot of the bandwidth if millions of users are using the same feature at once. So, how to solve this? Have a revenue stream to pay for that bandwidth.

It depends on the design but most apps will send VoIP traffic direct between the players and not via a server. The only bandwidth used is the players. Besides the minimal data involved in call setup, there is no reason for voice to go via a server, thus there is no additional cost in the service.

That's not to say of course that they wouldn't charge for the service anyway, but if they did, it wouldn't be to pay for voice bandwidth.

Um... You all were debating what it was without openly saying it. It's called Party Chat, it's pretty cool. Get your answer yet?

Why don't you in future, debate the topic as well, instead of saying something of no relevance to anything. Everyone knew what was being discussed, it didn't need you idiotic 14 year old brain to come in here and say that.

Here we go, I'll help you out on the debate..

You play on Xbox right? What do you think of Party Chat? It's pros/cons; would you care if it wasn't there?

I'm idiotic? Wow, that makes absolutely no sense whatsoever...

As for the other thing. I think it has some cool features, but could use a kick player system similar to LFD and Ability to be in Party Chat in Mw2...

Bold Point: In fact, it does have relevance. It was what was being discussed, thus making it relevant because it is the topic of the argument.

Yea, and I'M the idiot.

But yeah, I don't see it much of a deal breaker or something I'd ever use. When I play MW2 with friends we usually mic up or start a chatroom (which I believe can be used cross-game as well). So, I don't see the fuss about it really.

Personally I enjoy it a lot with the fact that I can talk to all my friends if I want while playing if for some reason they are playing something other than MW2 (which rarely happens by the way) Although, would I pay, basically, just to get this for PS3? No.

Actually you didn't. The discussion was whether the cross-game chat was worthwhile not what it was called. You provided irrelevant input into a discussion which then resulted with the obvious. If anything you proved your immaturity in this thread by trying to prove your superiority.

No, but he said what i said was of no relevance. It was the topic of the discussion, thus making it relevant in some way to the discussion. KUGetIt?

It is of no relevance, I asked what people thought of it, not what it was called. Stop derailing threads.

Back on-topic, Sony have talked about doing it, but there's been no definite talk of it. People are worried that when Playstation Plus comes out it'll be included in there and they'll have to pay for it. I doubt Sony will do that. As I said I'm not too worried about it, it's not something I'd use much, just wondering what people thought of it.

Seems pretty much that if it wasn't ever there from the start, they wouldn't care?
