SOTW Contest - Modern Warfare 2 Forum: Free Call of Duty MW2 Community

Something we have over at C4F is SOTW - Call of Duty Forums . A friendly contest between members who just like to make do some GFX. I wanted to know if anyone was interested in brining the same thing here.

It's open to everyone and a good way for beginners (like myself) to grow and learn.

If you vote "other" please explain.

i vote other, how about a set size square and people do that instead of a sig?

It would enable bigger and better designs aswell as avoiding people copying or ripping other designs off the internet. Unless you make a rule that they have to have proof they made it e.i. pdf or screen shot

What do you mean exactly? Just a standard size and people do whatever they want?

He explained it to me, artist gets total free range...I just say it has to be 500 x 500 pxls and then you create whatever you like. Not based on a theme like we have been doing, ie. Halo, AC2 ect...

I like the theme deal, it makes them easier to compare when trying to decide on a winner, since the renders used are largely similar. I vote yes, but not to start immediately, wait for more members, and more activity before starting or else I imagine there will be few entries.

I think it's a good idea. While I don't make graphics, I enjoy seeing the work of others. It would also keep the graphics team on their toes.

I guess that sounds like a good idea. As Dante said, maybe we should wait a little, for some more members to start it. For me it's cool either way, up to you.

No, keep the themes.

If a member steals anyone's design that he found on the internet, then may a lifetime of shame ban him from competing.

Themes make it so you have to use what you have to be creative, in this world, it's not about what you can't do with so much, it's about what you can do with so little.

Like Dante said and Greg quoted and now I'm repeating again so I'll have an excuse to increase my post count w/o spamming................let's wait for more members to join first, there isn't many GFX artists around, and 35% of them(Specs & I) can't be arsed to do anything so that leaves like 4 ppl

I have tried to do simliar things on other Gaming forums. There is only 1 major problem. I dont want to sound egotistical or anything, but the same people usually win every week. lol. You dont normally find the best GFX designers on Gaming Forums.

Other than that, I am down for this. Keep the theme idea. Id love to help run this.

Dont worry i think we have already worked out the kinks, jolo has done a great job of it on C4F

Call of Duty Forums -> Sig of The Week (SOTW)

But i suppose with a new community there could be some problems

I was looking at C4F's Sotw layout. Its pretty cool. We should also include a few more details in the Description for the entry details.

Looks like you have a Subforum for SOTW? Also, in the submission thread... do you just edit the first post every new Sotw, and delete the posts? I guess Ill have to wait and see how you guy's set up the Voting sections for it.

I was gonna pm you but failed at figuring that out lol...so

What I do is have a constant voting thread that showcases past winners, current voting and future submission. The submission thread is kept open and just changed with the details of the contest that week, sometimes it's more detailed like a specific render or is just more free range like Halo for this week. I then compile the entries post those into the voting thread and delete all the submissions. It takes all of maybe 10 min at the very most.
