This morning I watched "An American Tale: Fievel Goes West" and it got me thinking about other movies from my childhood or ones I always remember watching with my mom or dad. So I figured it would be a nice discussion to have with other members about the Top 5 movies you hold in your heart for the nostalgic feelings they bring. I'll start. (They don't have to be movies from your childhood only)
1. Rocky Horror Picture Show - I watched this with my mom when I was 10-11 and loved it. It was wacky and funny, something my mom and I could watch together over and over. The soundtrack is totally epic! Everytime I see it I think of us singing together. 2. The Clash of the Titans - My favorite movie of all time. Remember seeing this on TV with my dad when I was super little. Always sat on his lap for this one. I bought it the day it came out on DVD and it doesn't get loaned out to anyone! 3. Westward the Women - This is an old black and white Western movie my mom had me watch with her one day. It's about a group of women that pick husbands from pictures tacked on the wall and they head out west in covered wagons to meet them. The men don't even know what their new brides look like so it's pretty funny when the huge lady picks the skinniest guy in town and he's like WTF?! 4. Cast Away - Took my mom to see this in the theater and she cried when Wilson drifted away. It also was my ex-husbands favorite movie and every time we were trying to figure out what to watch, he always chimed in with "Cast Away". He got his way 45% of the time. ![]() 5. Bridge over the River Kwai - Old black and white military/war movie I watched with my dad. This came out in 1957 when he was 8 years old and was one of his favorites growing up. I watched it with him when I was a teenager and it was a good bonding moment for us both. |

Bridge over the river Kwai is colour.
My missus cried when wilson drifted away too. Anyway on with the show:- 1.Private Benjamin This was the first film my family ever rented on video. We had just got our ferguson top loader installed and my dad went to get us a film to watch. I still enjoy the first half of the film. It was one of the few times we all enjoyed the same film. 2.Digby the biggest dog in the world A 70's family film about a dog (old english sheepdog) that grows to godzilla like proportions. The dog in this film was Fernville Lord Digby (real life pedigree name), and he sired my first dog Fernville Tommy Tucker or as we called him Blue. As a child I enjoyed seeing my dogs dad on tv. 3.Wild Geese An old war film starring Roger Moore, Richard Harris, Richard Burton and Hardy Kruger. This was just pure escapism as a child. It took me to a thrilling and tragic world, and thanks to this film I knew Uzi's were effective in 300m firefights long before cod. 4.Something about Mary Something a little more recent. When I first watched this I was with several other friends in a flat doing things with herbs you shouldn't really do. I hadn't seen any clips of the film beforehand and I almost pissed myself more than once. The Franks and Beanz scene and when you first see Dillon's new teeth had me in pain from laughing. I honestly don't think I will ever laugh at a film more than the first time I watched this. 5.Debbie Does Dallas Don't worry it wasn't my first fap. As a child in the pre internet days porn was difficult to get. When I found out that someboy had a copy of DDD and we had somewhere to watch it (a friends house at dinnertime during school the next day), I was so excited itrigued, apprehensive and a little scared as this was in the realms of quite naughty. 108 of us (thats what my it felt like) were crammed into the front room fast forwarding through some crap to watch the good stuff. I own the film now of course but I now get to watch it with a real life woman woot! |

Oh my this will be tough.
1) The Lion King: I think I was like 4-5-6-7 when this came out, also the first movie that I cried during that I can remember. I was so sad when Mufasa died. Anyway I was huge into musicals at that time and I absolutely loved the music in that movie. 2) Clash of the Titan: Uh yeah EPIC!!! The old one I think that Ghostie is referring too. Too bad I can't stream it on Netfilx ![]() 3) Jason and the Argonauts (1963): I pretended I was Jason fighting the skeletons and Hydra. I had a frisbee as my shield and a plastic garden hoe as my sword jumping from couch to couch killin the bad guys. 4) Old School Halloween and Christmas Cartoon Specials: Claymation Christmas, Halloween Tree, Various Disney Halloween shows made specifically for Halloween. Basically, the shows that were made specifically for the Holiday and not stemming from an everyday show. I could watch these shows anytime throughout the year. 5) Oh and a movie I liked too watch a lot was Disney's Sleeping Beauty. I always enjoyed magic, dragons, knights, etc. I would watch this one almost every time I went to my Busia and Dziadzia's House.

Thanks Skuh, I could have sworn it was B&W but it's been well over a decade since I've seen it. I might be confusing it with Das Boot.
Oz, I'm a purist and refuse to see the new CoftheT movie, mostly due to hearing Bubo not being in the film. I also have Jason & the Argonauts. Love the skeleton army!!! |

Hmmmmm this is a toughie... 1) Enter the Dragon (any and all old school Kung-Fu movies) - I remember being young and sitting on my grandpa's lap (or the arm of his recliner) watching these. It's why I love kung-fu movies to this day. 2) The Little Mermaid - I remember this one because I know I have seen it a million times and every summer in the pool for YEARS we would play like we were mermaids. I also remember recreating the scene where she is on the rocks singing and she pushes herself up and the water sprays behind her, in my bathtub at home...I'm sure my mom really appreciated me getting water all over the place lol 3) Robin Hood Men in Tights - This was the first PG-13 movie my parents took me to see in the theater. It was a big deal to me because I was old enough to go, and my sister couldn't and it was just us and to this day the movie is funnier and funnier. 4) Cool World - Its this odd half animated movie with Brad Pitt, I remember seeing it a ton when I was younger because it would come on HBO or Showtime. It was sexy and cool and I have it on my instaqueue because I want to watch it again. I think some innocence was lost in watching that movie. 5) Muppets Treasure Island - I have seen this movie no less than 2 dozen times and I still love it! It's funny and has pirates and is just ugh so fantastic. This reminds me of summers with my cousins watching movie's at my aunt's house. It's a classic for sure.

Unlike dhoop, I'm struggling to think of movies I watched when I was younger. Off the top of my head:
Who Framed Roger Rabbit? Space Jam Land Before Time The first Pokemon Movie (I think it was just called Pokemon the Movie or something) And even though I didn't watch these three until last year, they were made in '98 or '01 Saving Private Ryan Behind Enemy Lines Enemy at the Gates Yes, they're all war movies. |
