What's the best software for beginners? I'm looking to make some techno/trancy stuff.

Any good sites or forums? (Although i would assume that depends on what genre your into?)

Reason 4 + formal music theory lessons/self-tuition. You'll regret it if you don't base your learning around formal theory.

Yep, I haven't messed with any Propellerhead software in a while but they did do very well on the PC - latest I used was Reason 2 before moving onto the Mac.

Regardless of application, it's a massive amount of stuff to learn if you're new to electronic music though (and most people don't have the patience to follow it through), but Reason packages it up quite well from memory.

ViS is right about music theory. As fat as production is concerned I can't really help you, for mixing I've found traktor and ableton to be effective. Ableton can be used for production from what ive heard. My brother uses I think logic and or cubase, you English folks may have heard of him bit probably not.

My brother is one half of Visitor. He's been in London for the past 6 years or so. I know not much of their music and whatnot and I suppose it would matter what kind of 'scene' you're into.
