The real film is currently dubbed as in production, and is expected to be released in 2013. This film is aimed at giving the MK film series a reboot(or in this case a "rebirth" Hurr), and I hope it succeeds.

This ~8 minute long teaser was recently released to give fans an idea of what to expect in the new film, also serves as a "beta testing" for the production team, the film plot may change subsequently to the viewer/fan reception.


Me being a big MK franchise fan, I find the plot quite unrelated and isolated to the rest of the franchise, in a way it seems to lose that MK feeling I grew up used to.

BUT, and I mean BUT! this new storyline fits MUCH better for a movie, the original dimension-changing/Netherrealms storyline fits the video games well, but it wouldn't be more of a B-side plot if you were to convert it into a film(like we've seen from the original MK films), also I admire how they found a way to make the most utopian of storylines and characters into something contemporary and realistic(for today's Hollywood standards, this is pretty damn realistic). And specially, I love how they found a nice way to keep the Scorpion/Sub-Zero rivalry in the plot.

So I'm very excited about the movie, afterall it's been around 13 years now since production for this film was first conceived.
