If you have every gotten smashed by a riot shield, and wondered how they do it. Then this guide is most definitely for you.
Getting to Know The Riot Shield The riot shield is exactly what it sounds like. It is a square, bullet proof shield that is used to stop riots. Even though the riot shield is bullet proof, it will still crack. The cracking of the riot shield can limit your view, but you will still be protected. Another flaw, is that it counts as your primary weapon, so you are stuck using only a secondary Here is an example: ![]() Making a Riot Shield Class Primary: Riot Shield Secondary: Thumper Equipment: Throwing Knives Perk 1: Scavenger Perk 2: Up to you. Perk 3: Commando Death Streak: Matrydom Strategy 1: The Wait The wait is also known very widely as camping. This is not my favorite way to go, but is effective at times. Step 1. Find a room with limited exits, and prop up in a corner. Make sure the area you pick has heavy traffic. Step 2. Once propped up, you just simply wait for an opponent to come near you. Step 3. Then you have the choice of either using a throwing knife, or quickly beating him down with the riot shield melee. Remember, the riot shield takes two melee riot shield attacks. Step 4. Return to step 1, and start over. Strategy 2:The Hunt The hunt is how alot of people play, they run around the map to find the enemy. This works a little different with the riot shield. Step 1. Start sprinting towards an area where you believe the enemy is. Step 2. Once you find the enemy quickly crouch. This will keep you basically invulnerable to bullets. Step 3. Find cover. Possibility A: Your opponent charges towards you. Possibility B: Your opponent waits. Depending on what your opponent does will alter how you play. Solution for A: If your opponent charges you, then you should take him out with the melee. Beware! He might have back up. Solution for B: When your opponent decides to play it smart, you should do the same. Call for back up, and try to keep a good eye on him if possible. Another thing you can do is to switch to your secondary weapon. Step 4: Go back to Step 1. Strategy 3: Scavenging The Scavenging strategy relies on finding dead bodies so the Scavenger Perk will come into play. Step 1: On your riot shield class change the first perk to Scavenger. Step 2: Change your equipment to Throwing Knives. Step 3: Your game plan should be a mix between The Hunt, and The Wait. But it should differ in the fact that you will be using your throwing knives, and your secondary (The Thumper is a good way to go) a lot. Well I hope this guide helped. Please leave comments. And, note this is my first guide.

really? you suggest I go around armed purely with 2 grenades and a launcher?
Apart from limiting you to 2 kills, weapons like Akimbo Rangers or 1887 will be just as damaging at long range (since you need an almost direct hit for the explosion to kill not just damage) but dominate at close range due to increased damage, semi-auto fire, faster reloading and more ammo. No mention of using the riot shield tactically at all? when used effectively it can dominate in tactical games like domination or SnD. Also a word on crouching to avoid being shot on the foot, going prone with shield on back to avoid being killed by helicopter gunfire etc would make the guide a fair bit more useful. And also frag grenades seem a more useful choice than throwing knives given that typically the riot shield will be used in closer quarters (given that your secondary weapon will have a limited range) and grenades can clear rooms before you pop your head through a window like a sitting duck for the two shot-gun wielding camping bomb site A protectors inside... Interesting subject to choose, just missing quite a bit of general background info for the actual riot shield and you have some debatable perk & weapon choices.

You might also want to add that the riot shied:
I would also add the maps which are good and bad for it, i mean none of your techniques would work on wasteland or rust, but would work a perfectly on maps like terminal and invasion. Also try and find all the challenges, titles and emblems unlocked via the riot shield. Knowing what the riot shield rewards you with will give more reason to use it. Finally i would add that if a enemy charges at you, to make sure u follow his movement as a knife to the back will kill you, and when i mean follow i mean try and keep half the shield infront of him if he is running to ur side. Overall there is alot u have missed, i would suggest adding the above and listen to what abc said aswell |

Some additional thoughts:
You don't need Scavenger to scavenge. I use Riot Shield constantly, when my secondary weapon (usually a launcher) is out of ammo I go to a body I just killed and switch the launcher for whatever they were holding when they died. Only the best players aim for the feet when they see a Riot Shield, so most people are at a loss when you charge toward them and their bullets do nothing. Don't be too timid to charge. Many times they will try to melee you, the shield blocks their knife. If you see a player aiming low go to the crouch, but not before. Watch for players that are crouched/prone when you approach, protect your feet. When running the Riot Shield is not directly in front of you, but off to the left, keep your enemies off to your left as well and charge in an "oblique" way. Many times people will empty their mag in frustration when shooting at a Riot Shield, wait for them to re-load then get them with your equipment (I recommend Throwing Knife or Semtex, although Semtex takes a while to "deploy"). Stun grenades also let you get up close and personal with a Riot Shield. Flashbangs are not a good choice for Riot Shield close combat, (as they blind you as well). Since it takes two melee hits to kill someone try to back them into a corner. Keep aware of where they are, I can't tell you how many times I've let them get behind me and got meleed in the back. I find it's effective to focus on the other player's name to track where they are between "thumps". I'm a big fan of Marathon, Lightweight, and Commando for Riot Shield melee running. The Shield actually makes you sprint slower, so Lightweight helps. Use a launcher to shoot at Harriers, then crouch with the shield, the shot gets their attention and they will shoot at you again and again and again, you get EXP for deflecting the bullets. I can just see them up there saying "WHY WON'T THIS GUY DIE?!?!" When you meet another Riot Shield player, use Semtex if you have it (unfortunately the Riot Shield makes a GREAT Semtex target). This seems like a first guide for you. You should have done the guide when you got home, so you could have some play time, then written the guide. I don't use the riot shield, never have, and don't know when I will, so I can't comment on things you missed, but by what others are saying, you've missed some key things. I suggest you get 2-3 hours of playtime in with it, since you already have the guide written, and then come back to update it.

Well, I tried!
And I was RUBBISH with the shield - I honestly dont think i'll bother again I kept getting shot in the back by enemy no.2 whilst dancing around with enemy no.1 and most of the time my shield would get so shot up that I couldnt see what the hell was going on - plus EVERY bit of semtex thrown at me would land on my shield and then there was the problem of not being able to get my secondary up quick enough not for me that shield business!

The shield is great. With good a good wingman it is a house. It can actually be used a distraction for noobs lol. Recently I have been the man using the shield, and I have had a guy near me just shooting the guy who is distracted by me just moving around him with the shield. It's pretty effective.

Using the shield as part of a two or three man team is brilliant in objective games. People cannot held but focus on the shield man leaving the support men to "clean" up.

A note on the Riot Shield bulletproof challenge: The first level is deflect 1000 bullets, which gives you 500 EXP and the "Bulletproof" Title. It takes a long time and 500 EXP seems like a "low" reward.
The second level is deflect 10,000 bullets which has taken me a VERY long time (I'm on 9,300), I'm not sure what "callsign" reward goes with it, but I know it pays 1000 EXP, which DEFINATELY is a "low" reward for how much time it takes. I don't even want to think about how long it would take to finish level 3- deflect 50,000 bullets. I know it comes with a SUPER-RARE Riot Shield emblem (different from the one you get for "Shield Veteran"), and it pays 2500 EXP. That's CRIMINALLY low. Think of it, if you deflected 50 bullets per match (which would be good) it would take 1000 matches to complete. 1000 matches times 10 minutes is 7 DAYS of playtime (24 hours a day). No thank you. |

Good points..!! I am going to use a riot shield class myself as I reckon it will be fun, but I reckon it will be most effective with at least 1 partner and the person with the riot shield keeping ahead of the assault team giving constant communication of where ennemies are at so they can take em out..!! One of the MW2 preview videos showed this being done to great effect and made me want to play this game even more..!!

Oh, most definately! Whenever I hear that Sentry Gun sound when I have Riot Shield I come running. Many times the SG just run out of bullets, then you can just walk up and knife it for 100 XP. You rack up MAJOR XP by standing in front of a SG with Riot Shield. The down side is- all that noise attracts others too, I get shot in the back a lot doing this.
You would think that you'd get hundreds of deflections per SG, but my challenge stats before an SG stand and after don't reflect that. I'd guestimate it is almost always under 100. Again I say, getting 50,000 deflections is an INSANE amount. To be frank, saying "simply sit in front of an SG" is not going to shave days off this challenge.

Riot shield is intend to be more of a close quarter combat, therefore you should pick perks that suit that fact; Perks to choose: throwing knife, the one that allows you to sprint infinitely, the one that extends your bashing range and the one that makes your movement quicker.
Instead of slowly moving towards your enemy by crouching, you should sprint at him, make sure that you sprint sideways to him so that you're not exposed (W and A). This way you are covered (notice; if you're using this technique make sure that only half of enemy is seen at edge of your screen.) This technique also gives you advantage of terrifying your enemy. Throwing knife is essential because it prevents enemies from shooting in your lags, and is "Saviour" when you face 2 enemies instantly... Also if enemy is stationary and is anticipating your exposure or he's is stupid, throw a knife at him- surprise him. This perk is by far more efficient then bashing your enemy; you don't have to approach him. This perk is also essential if you're leading a squad. If enemy engages your wingman, then throw a knife, or if you still didn't choose this perk then charge at him, right in front to block his bullets (make sure you're not sprinting when you obstruct his bullets or you'll most likely die.) Make sure that you secondary weapon has... tactical knife, or something that's called like that. Basically your knife is always readily equipped in your other hand while using secondary weapon. Choosing dual wield of secondary weapons is unwise, because primarily you'll be using shield, but use secondary weapons when you enter building occupied by enemies that aren't aware of you. Solely for that purpose I recommend "tactical knife". Sticky bombs aren't a problem at all. One sticks onto you, charge at your enemy (sprint at enemy using technique mentioned above), you won't get points for that, but you'll take him with you. Also flash bangs, etc. should be least of thread to you. If you happen to be flash banged then you're retarded shieldman. You should remain very close to your opponent; you should always equip throwing knife; you always be capable of charging your enemy and bashing him while he's vulnerable, or despite you should always be capable of bashing your enemy. P.S. BEWARE OF SHOTGUNNERS, ESP. DUAL WIELD. If you face one, you may do following: withdraw from fight; regroup with ally to assist you; throw a knife at him while he's reloading/sprinting at you. |

I prefer playing riot on hardcore. Its a HUGE diffrence between 1 and 2 hits with the shield. altho, people seem to shoot thru the fucking shield at HC. But if u keep distance and throw the knife (or hit them with a stun, i laugh so hard every time i hit) when they reload or turn to run they stand NO CHANCE! It works like a charm. And they get pissed very fast

Never run at your opponent its far too easy for them to blast you in the legs.

Riot shield w/o blast shield is utterly useless vs semi decent players. Many ppl currently dont realize it yet, but riotshieldusers are a free kill for me every time.
Semtex shield, ???, dead shielduser. Like 80% of the players already only use semtex, once everybody realizes this makes a shield useless, blast shield will be a must. |
