Weapon Statistics
The Intervention is a fairly powerful weapon, its only exact match being the Barrett .50 Caliber Sniper Rifle.
Thanks to Novan Leon from modernwarfare2forum.com for the numbers.

Base Damage - 70
Base Damage + Silencer - 50

Damage Multipliers
  • Head : 1.5
  • Neck : 1.5
  • Chest : 1.5
  • Stomach : 1.1
  • Limbs : 1

Damage Numbers
  • Head : 105
  • Neck : 105
  • Chest : 105
  • Stomach : 77
  • Limbs : 70

Damage Numbers with Stopping Power
  • Head : 147
  • Neck : 147
  • Chest : 147
  • Stomach : 107.8
  • Limbs : 98

Damage Numbers with Silencer
  • Head : 75
  • Neck : 75
  • Chest : 75
  • Stomach : 55
  • Limbs : 50

Damage Numbers with Silencer and Stopping Power
  • Head : 105
  • Neck : 105
  • Chest : 105
  • Stomach : 77
  • Limbs : 70

By these numbers, one can tell that the Intervention with Stopping Power is a 1 shot kill from the torso up, excluding the limbs. With the Silencer attached, it will always be a 2 shot kill, unless you have Stopping Power equipped also, which will revert it back to the original statistics, making Chest, Neck, and Head hits 1 shot kills.

Weapon Attachments
All four of the sniper rifles have 6 attachments, 7 if you count the default sniper scope. The attachments are as follows :
  • Sniper Scope (Default)
  • Silencer (Marksman I , 15 Kills)
  • Heartbeat Sensor (15 Kills with Silencer attached)
  • ACOG Scope (Marksman II , 25 Kills)
  • Thermal Scope (20 Kills while looking through the ACOG Scope)
  • Full Metal Jacket [FMJ] (Marksman III , 75 Kills)
  • Extended Magazines (40 Bullet penetration Kills with FMJ Equipped)

Silencer
The Silencer attachment can be useful, as it removes the sound and muzzle flash, and you do not show up as a red dot on the minimap. It allows you to get a bit closer than you might have otherwise. If you play games with Accolades in mind, this would allow you to receive the one in which you spend the most time near enemies.

Heartbeat Sensor
I cannot comment on this one because I do not use the Heartbeat Sensor. I feel that if you're a sniper and you're spending most of your time within 20 meters of the enemy, then you probably shouldn't be sniping. If anybody wants to fill this slot, go play with the Heartbeat Sensor, get some good data, and then post it and I'll update this spot.

ACOG Scope
The ACOG Scope can be invaluable on smaller maps.It doesn't take up the whole screen like the regular scope or Thermal Scope, so you retain peripheral vision. This allows for better quick scoping, and more situational awareness. The ACOG has been updated in the game, featuring an actual crosshair this time instead of the ^. If you're going to use this, a good idea is to use it in conjunction with Steady Aim, or Sleight of Hand Pro.
Thanks to Th3 R3volution for clarification of scope-in time.

Thermal Scope
The Thermal Scope is probably one of the best tools for snipers included in the game. It gives you the view, as if you're looking through the White Hot(WHOT) view of the AC-130 from Call of Duty 4. Everybody who is not using the Cold Blooded perk will show up glowing white. As soon as they die, they turn gray, like the surroundings, making it easier, or harder, depending on the situation. On the snow maps, the snow shows up as white also, which can be a blessing or a burden, just depends on the situation. I highly recommend this for everyone out there. The downside to the Thermal Scope is when scoped in and looking around, things tend to blur a little bit. Also, if EMP'd, you lose the thermal capabilities, obviously, but you retain the red crosshairs, most likely for balancing purposes.

Full Metal Jacket [FMJ]
Full Metal Jacket, despite all claims, does not affect damage off the start. What it does is retain bullet damage when penetrating thin cover like corrugated steel, windows, wood, some concrete barriers, things of that sort. There's a high chance that you probably won't use this that often, unless you're going for the Extended Mags, so my advice is to use Bling to keep an attachment, because otherwise, you probably will forget that you have this on.

Extended Mags
Extended Mags adds 2 more bullets to the Magazine, so you have 7. I don't think that this is useful on the Intervention, mostly because I haven't unlocked them yet because 40 bullet penetration kills is very hard to do. The only reason I see people getting this is for the Mastery Title, which is why I'm trying to get these.

Weapon Camouflage
They are as follows
  1. Desert (Default)
  2. Arctic (Default)
  3. Woodland (5 Headshots)
  4. Digital (25 Headshots)
  5. Urban (30 Headshots)
  6. BlueTiger (75 Headshots)
  7. RedTiger (150 Headshots)
  8. FallCamo (250 Headshots)

Useful Perks

Tier 1

Sleight of Hand
Sleight of Hand is useful, even more so when you unlock the Pro version. Since its magazine fed, the Intervention is different from the bolt-actions we remember, and since we can't reload 1 round at a time, we might want to speed this up a little. When you unlock Pro, you scope in faster, allowing for quick scoping, or just faster reaction time.

Scavenger
This could be useful if you either miss a lot, need more magazines, when you unlock Pro, or kill a lot of people. In Modern Warfare 2, if you don't find the exact same weapon, you won't pick up ammo for the one you have. So this could be pretty valuable.

Bling
Bling allows for 2 attachments, when you unlock Pro, 2 attachments for your secondary. I recommend this if you're using Full Metal Jacket and you usually use another attachment.

Tier 2

Stopping Power
Stopping Power, I don't need to explain, just look back at the weapon statistics.

Cold Blooded
If you're trying to get behind enemy lines and stay there, this is a good tool. Killstreaks don't come after you, and Chopper Gunners have a hard time finding you.

Tier 3

Steady Aim
When Pro it acts like Iron Lungs. Its a good tool for no scoping because it brings in the spread.

Ninja
This is a perk you should use in conjunction with Cold Blooded. You'll be able to sneak around once its Pro, and you won't show up on Heartbeat Sensors, so that's one less factor to worry about.

I'm sure there are a couple other perks that I could add, any ideas just say something.

Tactics

Remember, 1 shot, 1 kill. The idea is to only have to shoot once. Try to cut misses to the minimum. Don't take any outlandish shots unless you're 101% certain that you're going to get the kill. Remember, with Stopping Power, just about every hit will be a kill, provided you're not shooting through a wall or something like that.

Move smartly, don't run completely out in the open. If you're wearing a ghille suit, you'll be even that much more obvious. Remember to stay in the shadows if you're indoors, being in the sunlight can make you stand out a lot, comparative to being white hot through a thermal.

Use all of the tools you have. Don't limit yourself to the same perks and attachments. Switch it up, find a good combination, then find another, and then yet another. You want to be prepared for all situations. I realize that this is a hard thing to do, but you have to try.

Stay away from other teammates. They will draw attention to you, obstruct your view, and frankly piss you off. Doesn't matter if they're a friend of yours, if you're deep into the game, they will mess you up, you will want to kill them, they will not be alive anymore after you're done with them.

Figure out areas with good grass cover, stay near them. Think of the grassy bushes at Wasteland. You can stand right next to one of them and sometimes be virtually invisible. Just make sure that you don't do anything stupid to make yourself known.

Acceptable Terrain

Unacceptable Terrain

Anything you feel should be added, just say something.

Well, Ive been using bolt action rifles since Call of Duty 2 and Ill have to say that Ive bonded with them. I have the choice to use them if I want to, even if I accept the fact that there is a better gun than it.

Correction for your guide:

The Acog no longer zooms in faster than a regular scoped sniper Therefore agcog is LITERALLY useless.

from MP logs btw

Good to see some guides in but I don't think there should be a guide on just one gun, why not make it a full sniper guide?

Thank you R3volution for pointing that out.

I don't do comprehensive guides, I like to pick one thing and focus on it. Pretty soon I'll probably put up a guide to the WA2000. Also if somebody requests something I might do it.

i think everyone is forgetting the time it takes to make these sort of things, none of you have said well done or apriciated the time he spent tring to help this site.

I think it is a good guide and very helpful for people wondering about using it or who want to know more about the gun.

Sarcross, thanks for the guide.

On topic, when EMP'd does the thermal scope become the regular scope or is there any difference there? I've always been curious.

When EMP'd, the thermal scope acts like the regular scope. The red crosshairs stay, but everything is in normal color. The easiest way I can tell you to test this because its a bit hard to explain, is have a friend with EMP kill you 15 times in a Private Match, so you can see for yourself.

To summarise everything deleted without mildly offending anyone:

  • The barret 50 cal is statistically a better weapon in every way

one thing to add... I believe the intervention has a better quick-scope over the Barrett whether using Slight Of Hand w/ADS or not

Well, then for a traditional, hard-scoping sniper, there's not much benefit.

Well I guess then, yeah the Intervention only serves as a more aesthetic, inferior rifle, but it is not far and away from the Barrett statistically.
