Starting Up

Before you start a clan, or really anything you want successful, you should be active and committed to what your about to do. Creating a solid clan will take some time, therefore I highly recommend you do some planning and set achievable goals before you begin recruiting.

Identity

Name:

The most important step,you must have a unique name and tag,this separates your team/clan from all the others.You must have a Original name and it should be unique not Copied like e.g AoA,AAE,HxC, ect.

Social Networking:

If you will be using a social networking service or forum. E.g myspace,facebook,MW2F, and so on. Use your symbol,tag,graphic or anything else that shows you are a part of that team/clan.

Advertising:

When thinking of advertising, use some graphics. It makes it easier to find things in a topic

Communication

Forums:

While not required it is helpful to have a clan forum, as many members are active and want to chat and express new ideas, ranks and organize tournaments.

Setting up a forum:

There are numerous websites that allow the generation of forums. The following websites are very simple to use when setting up a forum:

SMF forum

If your interested in adding a chatbox I suggest you use Xat.com which is compatible with most forum sites.

Clan/Team Threads
Now if you have got all of the above done and dusted,you should probably make a clan thread, which shows that your clan exists and in active enough.

On A clan/team thread you will need to include

Main Banner
Clan Description
Useful Links
Rules
News
Members List
(optional-Squads List)
(Optional)Graphics Section (which includes all of your avatars and signatures and such)
Tournaments Section
Something Unique like special tournaments

If you have all of the above done in your clan thread,than its good to be safe and make a extra reserve.Just don't overdo the clan thread,be organized,put a few stuff in one post and other in others,just be creative

Make sure you have all the information done and dusted on the thread cause most clan/team-less members come through clan threads so stay active everywhere.
