Default End of 'Loose Ends' (Veteran)

Wasn't sure to put this in guide section or not, but I've discovered an easy way to beat the level. While some may think it's cheap, allow me to describe why I did this because I think there's a bug in the game which can make this level impossible if you get into a certain situation.

The Situation
The checkpoint halfway to extraction after grabbing the DCM. Ghost is about 30 seconds behind me. There are enemies behind me, and enemies spawning up the hill in front. If you try to fall back to Ghost, there seems to be an invisible line where you will automatically be taken out by a mortar no matter where you try and push through.

It's tough but it's possible to dig in until Ghost catches up. Then when he says 'Go, I'll cover you' a mortar will kill me outright no matter where I am. I could see no way to stop this happening, and believe me, I tried everything for over an hour!

The Solution
Restart. I honestly believe if you get into the above situation, there's no way to win. Get to the end of the DCM protect again. Make sure you have at least 2 flashbangs at this point. (You may want to restock on ammo before you retrieve the DCM, but if this works, you won't need it)

As soon as you grab the DCM, go to the office that Ghost is covering and go prone under the desk. Stay there for a couple minutes. A few enemies will come in and try and shoot you. They can hit you, but it's quite easy to take them out. Get out from the desk as the area around the house should now be clear.

Head out the front door and keep left (Don't go the lake way) Soon you should see a gap in the fence with some solar panels. Go there and crouch near the panels. Wait a couple minutes again.

When you come out, it should be clear all the way to the checkpoint. Now you will still have enemies coming up the hill so be careful. What I did was chuck a flashbang over the hill (at the center) to slow them down as I made my way over to the right. Once I got to the right side of the hill, I heard Ghost make his 'Go, you're covered' speech (Although I couldnt see him) At this point leg it down the hill sticking to the right while tossing your second flashbang. Sprint to the exit.

Now you may say this is a really cheap way to do the level, and I agree, but it's no more cheap than the mortars. I somewhat dislike them anyway. I'm playing on Veteran so I don't mind dying. I don't mind dying to an enemy I failed to spot or shoot quickly enough. I don't like dying completely at random with no way to prevent it, and I certainly don't like dying no matter what I try to do to advance the level, and I do genuinely believe the above situation is a bug. I looked around online before I restarted, and I could see I'm not the only one that this happened to.

So a cheap way around a cheap bug. I post it in case there's anyone in the situation I was in last week. I was close to giving up on the game entirely, but now I've gotten past that bit, I finished Veteran.

Don't you just have to duck to not die by the mortars?

in my opinion the campaign on veteran wasnt overly difficult. With that level I just stayed instead the house above the DCM and then when ghost said go I went, just keep running and don't look back

I am late to this game but I was cruising along until this exact spot and I can't get out of the perpetual death cycle either. It was so bad that I came to Google and found this post. I then joined this forum just so I could say thanks for the idea. I was starting to get pretty angry at Ghost for the worst cover of all time.

Not to mention I'm out there with a sniper rifle, heavy machine gun and 1 frag grenade. Lesson learned. Never expect a level to be over before it's over.

Thanks again. Restarting now. And there are just as many mortars on Hardened.

After I picked up the DCM I just make a b-line for the extraction point pretty much jumping down the hill.

D
I struggled with this fucker of a level on Vet for hours. I did eventually by: after retrieving the DCM, I just let Ghost do his own thing whilst I:

a) grabbed the AK47 (i think) with noob-tube by the front door, spammed a couple of tubes at the enemies rushing the door.
b) grabbed the M1014 laying on the floor near the front door as my secondary
c) ran down the stairs to the bottom level, shotgunning a couple of enemies
d) made it to the weapon store in the basement and stocked up
e) legged it out of the side of the house at full speed hip firing only if enemies in the way
f) ran/jumped in a crazy zig-zag pattern down the hill to the extraction
g) got murdered by treacherous bastard.

This pretty much sums up what I did since I already had all the ammo I needed for my weapons of choice. Only difference is this part of the mission only took me like 2 or 3 tries.

Haha I was playing that level on regular the other day and it was hard enough. I was kind of going down the side and ghost was somewhere else, since I wasn't paying enough attention to stay with him. I tried to wait for him and got killed by mortars, tried to run back to the house to start over and got killed by mortars, tried running straight for it and got shot to hell, tried shooting at the people shooting me and got shot to hell, tried fragging and flashing the heck out of everybody and got shot to hell.... and that was only on regular lol. Somehow it just happened one time and I made it though.

Although that's very weird because the first time I played it through on hardened without pretty much any problems, especially on this level.

The hardest part for me when I did that was lucky shots in the back, once I got down the hill I threw flashbangs, frags and shot at people who seemed to be shooting me (the first time I ever recall not just dropping everyone in sight). I'd say 90% of my many deaths there were being shot in the back (a few times in rapid succession) just as I reached the top of the slope.

I think if I remember correctly I spammed flash bangs and grenades and then used an m240 to mow down any one that didn't get stunned as I hauled ass down the hill.
