I keep hearing / reading people refer to the fact that they get 2 claymore mines when using scavenger perk but I only get 1 of them. Is this true? Do I need to prestige first…….where my other claymore?

I have been using this equipment/perk combination the entire time I've been playing MW2 and I've never gotten more than one claymore after dropping one.

All the things you hear about and read about are referring to your ability to pick up more ammo and equipment. When you walk over a dead body with the scavenger perk you get another claymore once you have planted one. You can plant up to two at a time, if you try to plant more the first one will explode.

^^^^Quite right. It makes the first one a little like C4 when you plant the third one.

I'm not sure about this, but are you using Scavenger or Scavanger Pro? Scavenger Pro gives you more ammo to start with, I'm not sure about the claymores, I can only say what's already been said: you pick more up as you walk over dead bodies.

You don't get two. You can lay one, pick up another and lay that too ending up with two out but you can never start with two or carry two at once.

You can have two claymores out at a time and thats it. If you go to put down a third the first one you put down automatically blows up.

hmm... blows up w/ damage? As in - can you plant the third claymore with intentions to inflict damage using the first one?
or is it like a phantom explosion?

Yes they deal damage to both the player and the enemy (only if standing in range).
