I made it a point this prestige (third) to start using pistols as my secondary, which I hadn't done before. By doing so, I fell in love with the tactical knife.

But I don't just use it for a SMG Sprint/Stab class (although I do have one). I use my Tac Knife on EVERY class except my Anti-Air Class.

For example:

Famas/Holo
USP/Tac Knife

Sleight of Hand Pro
Stopping Power Pro
Commando Pro

Seriously, this thing is awesome, without having to be that annoying kid who just runs around with it all game. Whenever I am about to enter a CQC situation, I bust out the USP/Tac. I conserve ammo better and stay off the radar more with the silent knife kills. It really has improved my game.

I also love it because you switch to handguns SO much faster that the other secondaries. I'm all about quick reactions (which is why I run SOH most of the time), so this just sealed the deal for me.

Believe it or not, I use my Tac Knife...tactically! The way it was designed to be used, not to just run around a gigantic battlezone like Afghan or Derail with it. When people do Sprint/Stab on smaller maps like Favela, I don't get as annoyed. But man, when people run around the big maps in this game and do nothing but knife it is so stupid and annoying!

Anyone else feel the same? I have yet to see ANYONE kill me with a Tac-Knife that wasn't using Marathon/Lightweight. Yet, I average probably 3-4 kills a game with mine on a regular Assault class. Sometimes I get as many as 10.

You aren't the only one. I too am working my way towards the tactical knife, since I used it before I prestiged the first time. I loved it, but on the second and third prestiges, I used the shotguns and launchers more.

I had one class dedicated to knife running, I usually focused on it for the Perk challenges, and the knife challenges. On maps like Favela, Skidrow, and Highrise, it's fun to run at high speeds to knife people, but I make sure they are within knifing range, if not I usually pulled out the UMP and did work!

It is an awesome setup, especially with the USP .45, such an accurate and quick killer if need be.

So don't worry, you aren't alone, you are just unique.

Another way I get a ton of kills with it is when I'm getting chased, I duck around a corner or get through a doorway, quick switch to the pistol and wait for the guy to come chasing after in me, then BAM! Knife to the neck!

Again, tactically using the Tac-Knife is way more enjoyable than just running around with it like a doofus.

I prefer to shoot, but on classes when I'm using a tac knife, it can be useful in clearing a small crowd of unaware enemies. Run, gun, knife, with an LMG class.

Am I the only one who runs with an LMG with Commando?

This right here pisses me off. It is the cheapest way to get kills when using knife only. Perform Halo 3 lunge and can't be killed while lunging 20ft away from player. I use

I have Tac Knife on my USP.45 and I love using it with Ninja. You have to be more skilled, run behind things, wait, flank other team, get close enought to them to NOT lunge 20ft away. People think they are so good becasue I knifed you! Well hate to burst your bubble, but commando Pro on a knife class is cheap. You may say "its part of the game" or "learn to play the game" I have used it, but not in a knife ONLY class. I do know how to play them game! I am can get 20+ knife kills WITHOUT Commando Pro.

They can keep no falling damage, but reduce the range of commando, add 5ft to what the normal knife range is without commando and it will be fine.

Stopping Power makes shooting require less skill. Hardline makes getting a killstreak require less skill (arguably). SitRep makes being aware require less skill. Ninja makes being sneaky require less skill.

That's the whole point of perks, to make one aspect of the game easier. It only makes sense that Commando would be used on a knifing class, since it makes knifing easier. Does it make it any less annoying? Absolutely not

For the record, I don't use the Tac-Knife for a "Knife Only Class". I use it on any class. I just think it is the best secondary for CQC.

I used to run Commando on my AUG class, but found Steady Aim worked better for me. The limited mobility of LMGs makes knifing less feasible, so I go with Steady Aim.

Steady aim seems like a waste of a perk slot once you've unlocked the grip for any of the LMGs, and the Aug Hbar is pretty damned accurate even before that, so yes I also choose other perks, commando being the most logical, the no-fall-damage is very useful whatever set up you're using.

Well some others do you use it although I'm not one of them, I prefer to run around with the lightweight and marathon.

Downside

I tried using tac knife with the riot shield and no lightweight or marathon perks. It was just a big fail as I was too slow to run up to people and using a single pistol (magnum) with low ammo count as your only real weapon is just too hard to do.

Lesson for us all: Tac knife with riot sheild is a big no no.

You still have to be able to hit your target accurately, SP or not. I use SP on most of my classes, but with it or without it I'll out kill you everytime.

Anyways, I do like pistols for reasons the OP stated. The sheer speed of them and light weight of them makes them feel like a proper sidearm. i.e. not something you can get away with using on it's own, but a weapon that has it's own benefits for certain situations (like when you've run out of ammo - a shotgun may not be able to be equipped fast enough, for example). The tac knife just adds to this nice pistol package rather nicely IMO.

Two people are fighting with the same weapon. With stopping power it takes three bullets to kill, without it takes four.

The person without stopping power misses their first bullet, but connects on the next 3, and fires slightly earlier. The other player hits all three, but fires slightly later.

The first shooter was less skilled, as they missed a shot, but they will still get the kill.

Or even if they fired at the same time, the person with stopping power needs less skill to get the kill in the shooting situation, because they don't to aim accurately as long to get the kill shot.

on topic: I used handguns on my sniper class first prestige, but the tac knife seemed kind of pointless b/c there would almost never be a situation that needed me to knife more than one person in quick sucession. I would usually use akimbo usp or m9 because they have more firepower. If it ever came down to it I could still knife whoever was rushing my position with ease. Now I use the m1014, a semi auto spas12.

and did anyone else know that tac knife for the usp adds recoil?

I actually use the USP .45 when I need to reload the MP5k or when I sneak up on multiple enemies and need to knife them all quickly before they realize I'm behind them.

I mean, without lightweight/marathon - I don't know how you can use tactical knife. At all. Hell, I don't know how you use regular knife without marathon/lightweight.

I love the tac knife, I still use it even though I have switched to Tactical layout.
Before I switched I used it with M sometimes M L, but never ever M L C (Ninja FTW). Now I have pistols on a lot of my setups and don't have M or L on any with tac knife.

I've almost always used pistols as my secondary, except for some g18 and spas on rare occasions. The thing is I use Extended mags / FMJ on my guns instead of tac-knife like I used to because I play on tactical. When I didn't I had tac-knife Deagle on all my classes and it does save you quite a few times in close quarters.

I use tac knife on my ninja class, with marathon, cold blooded, and ninja. I usually flank and if I know theres a room with 2+ ppl that are clueless, I flip out the tac knife for quick kills. I find that its a good situational secondary and very inefficient for those running it as a primary like someone stated before.

your not alone my friend. I don't use tactical knife THAT much, but i only use it on occasions. Never with the perks you mentioned.
