I decided to try out a riot shield class today:

Riot Shield
Raffica Akimbo

Throwing Knife
Stuns

Scavenger
Hardline
Commando (I think)

It seems that no matter what, they always find a way through the riot shield. With this setup, I have got a care package, once. I've seen killcams where they are pointing their gun directly at the shield (and some from the side, but I understand that), and simply fire until I die. Not at my feet, or at my head. I could swear that the shield should be taking the direct fire. I've also seen people knife the shield, once again, not my head or my feet, and it seems to go right through it.

Does it block melee attacks? Or am I just getting the bad end of some lag?

Don't worry, it happens, usually lag is to blame. However, remember that a knife anywhere is an instant kill, they could turn, manage to knife your elbow, and still get a kill. Heck, even jumping and knifing towards your head can get you killed.

Riot Shields block everything if you die it's because a part of you was visible or you got knifed on a hair on your arm or something.

The Killcams aren't 100% reliable. As said before it could possibly be lag, or you could have been shot in the leg or the head but the killcam showed something else. A solution? Don't use the Riot Shield its pure garbage.

Yeah, all in all I think the only thing it accomplished was lowering my KDR and making me angry haha. I figured it was worth a try if it was actually something that could become useful, but gosh...

Downside

Probably lag is too blame, I've also noticed that the bullets blocked don't all count towards the challenge. I checked my stats before a game and after and I had only blocked 15 bullets yet during the game someone unloaded an entire lmg on me and it blocked all but the last few (which killed me). Thats at least 50 bullets right there but hardly any counted towards the challenge.

They don't block Semtex or Direct Impacts from Care Packages.

I noticed stuff like this too and then realised i got better results if i didn't stand square in front of the shooting gun, tilt slightly or rotate as if to deflect the bullets rather than absorb them.

Riot shields can block certain air support (Sentry, Harrier, Attack Helicopter, Pave Low). Try it. You'll rack up the XP from them blasting you.

Downside

Easiest way to rack up the deflected bullets challenge too. I blocked over 150 bullets in game by deflecting a harrier attack.

Even with a blast shield on and riot shield, semtex will kill you.

No it won't. That's pretty much the point of Blast Shield, it allows you to survive when a Semtex sticks to your shield.

It got me in skidrow on Sat......with a blast shield. The kill cam showed the semtex stuck to the riot shield, but i couldn't see the semtex b/c of the part of the screen blacked out by the blast shield. Possibly it was b/c the semtex was suck near the outside edge of the riot shield that I still died but it was definitely riot shield + blast shield < semtex.

Downside

It seems to be a bit on/off as to whether semtex kills you with blast sheild. I have died and survived using the exact same load out so I guess it depends on where it sticks to the shield. It might depend on if you move or not as well, cause if you stay still no part of you should be exposed. If you move it might hit your elbow or feet killing you. I guess somoene would need to test this to find out. All I know is it possible to survive semtex with blast shield.
