OK first off I only really play HQ on H/C.
My question is this; Does anyone do consistantly well using the shield? I have had a few good games with it but more often than not I get spanked moving from one HQ to the next. My current shield class is Shield Shotty Clay Smoke commando (and the two stealth perks I can't remember the name of!) My tactic is to move to the HQ, find a nice corner etc to hide in and capture the HQ, using claymore to cover a doorway. It works well in captureing the HQ and I do not show up on radar/heatbeats and I get a couple of kills too. BUT when I move round the map I get killed more often than not. Got any tips for moving between locations |

Hmm, I hardly ever play HQ but.. I don't think there are much things you can do. Just the basics; Just stay close to the walls, and crouch on dangerous places. And one other thing: Always look down when there are enemies, just a bit. When doing this, your shield will go "into" the ground a bit, and your feet are protected.
And your "stealthperks"? Ninja and Leightweight? Those are the ones which I use (+commando). Last edited by Huwa; 02-25-2010 at 05:26 PM. |

i dont think riot sheild is good enough for online games... MAYBE cage match .. but its just too hard to focus on blocking someone else while ur being shot from behind....

^Exactly what I was thinking.
Although I do admit I did have a fun game against a team who used only the throwing knives and the riot shield. We barely won but it was still fun.

Just stick close to walls and learn the maps as knowing where the enemy is going to come from will save you an infinite amount of times whilst using the shield.

Heres the thing with the riot shield - you have to see your enemies first, or at the same time if you want to stand ANY chance when using the shield. Now, if you are able to see your enemies before they see you, then why bother even using the riot shield when you can simply use a gun and take them out. The only benefit derived from using a riot shield is that of when playing with a closely knit team, using the shield for cover, ducking behind it, popping up to shoot etc. Also, used effectively as a distraction, the shield can become a valuable asset to a semi-competitive, half-decent team or group of players. Other than that, 1-1 in a public game, the shield is pointless. I do have a shield class, which I will occasionally pull out in SnD games while partying with some mates, the class goes as follows;
Riot Shield M9 w/tactical knife Scavenger Pro (vital) Danger Close Pro (some may prefer lightweight w/throwing knife +stun) Commando Pro Semtex (vital), Stun (vital) How i roll (for those of you who give a shit) is when i encounter an enemy, i wait for him to stop the initial reaction shooting, then i chuck a stun infront of the guy, and wait for the stun to go off while behind the cover of the shield. I think jump off to the side (map permitting) and throw a semtex in the closest possible proximity to the enemy. I then avoid entering the enemies direct line of sight, and i am practically immune (assuming your stun was half-decent) and the enemy is not immobile and can only wait for his/her (politically correct = me) death. Scavenger is a necessity in order to replenish nades, and danger close helps alot, increasing the semtex blast radius by 1.4x (I have double killed using this in SnD). The above all assumes I'm alone without the assistance of my team-mates, also if the enemy is stationary, in-front of you, you may not need to flash, but it is vital that you stick the semtex to him, in order to guarantee the kill. |

I've only recently used the riot shield and first thing i will say is, this class is not ment for kills!! Too much people complain of riot shield class not an efficient killer class, its not ment to be....
The class is generally to draw attention to yourself so your team mates can take out the enemy, last game i did, my score was 6 kills 26 assists 9 deaths, with the deaths coming from a stun and throw knife combo with scavanger to easily replenish the knifes and stuns Unless you have marathon, riot shield is a very slow mover in getting from A to B, so best way is to keep to buildings/ allyways, and do small stops where your pinned against a corner to check if you can hear anyones footsteps close to you, In levels such as wasteland or afghan where there is alot of open spaces, moving with the shield on your back and secondary raised is what i find works for me, which gives the advantage of your back already being covered to a degree |

i love the shield and quite consistently good with it.
I mainly use shield spas or M9w/ tactical knife C4 stun scavenger danger close commando or ninja martyrdom I only use the shield in objective based games and certain maps. I mainly play DEM or DOM and it can be really useful when defending. I leave C4 near a corner or somewhere and when someone comes round the corner they panic, shoot (get alot of XP) then BOOM! get alot of multikills. They get the 'ump and come racing back to some more C4 and just keep getting blown up. Also, sometimes i use the blast shield, if your defending and they keep Noob tubing or throwing semtex i just stick the BS on and take the damage while my team mates make all the kills. The shield is pointless in TDM and FFA, but objective based games its great if thats your thing |

I didn't read the rest of that paragraph.
I personally us it as so: Riot Shield USP.45 w/ EM or any shotgun. Throwing Knife Stun Scav Pro Lightweight Pro Commando Pro I find this works quite well, even when playing GW and there are more enemies. Its especially great for getting the throwing knife challenges as you get plenty of them with scavenger and you get time to line up a throw while you are absorbing bullets.

Pistols work best with shield as they have a quick draw time. Easiest way to get kills is to wait for them to stop firing or manoeuvre behind some cover and stun them, then just blast em with the pistols. I find akimbo magnums the best for this as they are more accurate than the stats lead you to believe and have high damage.
Throwing knife is good for the surprise kill as its quick but c4 works good for objective games if your defending as you can just draw them towards the c4 before blowing them up. Scavenger is a must though as your pretty equipment reliant. Just be careful with c4 and scavenger as sometimes i go to detonate the c4 not realising i've picked another one and chuck that instead.

Back to the question now. Well I suck with it so I dont know how well my advice is. I would say maybe stick with a teammate though if you are going to move around. If you stick in a close room then i guess just use a claymore for one entrance and well just wait. I would change your second perk to lightweight or hardline however. For the first perk use scavenger so you can have more than one claymore or replace the one you lost. |

I like the shield. It's rarely, if ever as efficient as using a gun (or even a knife) but it's just really fun. IMO there's three main builds using the Riot Shield.
You have your Runner - Shield, Akimbo Mags, Throwing Knife, Marathon/Lightweight/Commando. Relies on whacking people and using the throwing knife. You have one for objective gametypes (HQ, Demolition and Sabotage especially) - Shield, Akimbo Mags, Blast Shield, Marathon/Cold-Blooded (Pro is useful for stealth plants)/Commando. You have an Explosive one. Shield, AT4/Thumper/RPG, C4, Scavenger/Danger Close/Commando. C4 with Danger Close has an insane kill radius, and is your replacement for throwing knife. Launcher is for long ranges. |
