Thumbs down steam servers are terrible and so is cod6 matchmaking

This picture is a print screen of what i see when i try to matchmake on the PC. honestly, and there is no photoshop in this, mw2 has the worst matchmaking i've ever encountered in my life. There are countless problems, such as quitting one game and then when you matchmake again it puts you back in the same game for more than once. Also, steam is horrible. I mean its servers are always goddam overloaded, and theres always a fucking lag no matter what my ping is. did anybody else get this retarded shit?

i've had it disconnect from steam twice today and I can't get into a normal game of tdm for love nor money. Mercenary TDM seems to be working ok apart from the odd lag issues.

Also IWnet keeps picking me as host then everyone complains its lagging! ffs I would rather not be host tbh.

I got used to that pretty quick. I actually hardly play MW2 anymore and I probably won't until they sort it out. When it takes half an hour to finally get into a game of GW, only to get disconnected due to lag within 15 seconds, you know something is wrong.

I went back to COD4 on my PS3 this weekend. Got into a game in under 10 seconds. Completely lag-free aswell.

Even so PC > Console but that's another debate altogether.

Either way, we PC players have gotten used to being abused by devs. The situation isn't going to be changing anytime soon. Let's just hope it doesn't carry over to other games as well. *Sigh*

I know PC > Console and I bought my PC hoping to play MW2 on the better platform.

I really hope Trayarch will not make the same mistake with "COD:Vietnam".

That is a purely factual absolute "win" statement. The fact is, regardless of which is a better system (console or PC) MW2 on PC kinda sucks. I'll say that again for those of you that make this mistake. MW2 on the PC sucks. The PC however, certainly does not. Just look at COD1, COD:UO, COD2, COD4 and COD:WaW (and all the other well-implemented non-console-ported online games)

Another thing that gets me is that all the effects of IWnet are morally wrong as well as technically wrong. Closer (geographically) players = better ping = better online experience. So that means if you like TDM you get a massively better experience than if you like a very rarely played mode because in an unpopular game mode players are fewer thus statistically further between which = higher ping = worse experience. Dedi servers on the other hand gives everyone an equal experience (about 1/2 to a 1/3 as much as MW2) whether they are in a 32 player TDM or whether they're in an obscure custom map on a CTF mod - they will all get the best experience possible. My point: The more people online, the lower the ping = better online experience. With IWnet that means PC players or console players at odd times of the night are basically f*****.

Likewise the removal of freedom (play any map, any time and on any gamemode is a really simple thing to ask) is morally wrong.

All the other problems merely fall between "mildly annoying - but oh well the rest of the game is good" and "the game is now so annoying it's unplayable."

Late, yes, but I'm still miffed that when IW wanted an equal experience between the 3 platforms, they saw fit to down the PC to a matchmaking system rather than give the consoles dedicated server support.

Honestly, user friendliness? IIRC, that was one of the reasons. RTFM.

They could have improved the online portion by:

1. Keeping what CoD4 has.
2. Giving a "Play Now" which has filter options and automatically shoves you in a game, for those who find the "find a server yourself" too "user unfriendly".

Hell yes to #2. I can't believe that IW really thought that by dumbing down the PC, more people would actually buy it for PC. Most people I know are terrified of using a mouse and keyboard at the same time...they can't even do that at their job, let alone attempt to use the combo for a leisure activity.

To the OP, I also had that happen to me once, but it was due to Steam needing to update a patch. Do a system shutdown, then open Steam and try to start MW2, see if that helps.

MW2 on PC doesn't really suck if there is a good connection. But honestly theres only a good connection like 10% of the goddam time. The problem with this whole thing is steam. I played COD4 and i never had lag on the PC, because of the dedicated servers and stuff. Like ever. Now I get really frustrated when it puts me in a match where I have either really bad ping, or IWnet is just failing like in the picture I posted.

I honestly have no idea why they made a matchmaking system that is so flawed that it isn't even funny, and not to mention that the game has many flaws as well. But what makes the matchmaking even more frustrating is because you have to keep getting in and out of matches in my case to play a goddam good game.

Thanks for the replys btw guys.

Steam isn't the problem... CSS has dedicated servers and is very Steam friendly. Also, I never get a good connection. It'll go "Finding games <60 ping" and I get matched into a game with easily >120-140

Because IW fails and IWNet fails even more.

I reckon on average, I get about 5 mins of decent lag-free, aimbot-free, hack-free gameplay per hour. I spend so much time going in and out of games that are just unplayable for one reason or another.

Anybody wanna guess what my W/L ratio is because of the amount of games I have left?
