I know the riot shield is annoying but i would like some advice from people that use it and do well with it... i.e. perks what secondary gun to use. e.t.c. i've never used it for very long and i want to do the challenges, help would be appreciated... cheers

as far as secondary goes, I have no idea. I use whatever I feel like getting challenges for. Last time I used RS, I had marathon, Lightweight, and Commando (for extra super bashing range) and ran around bashing. Just try not to get semtexed. If you do and have good reflexes, try to pick up a new weapon of the ground and you might survive.

For equipment, use Throwing Knife for offensive (the shield doesn't slow it down) or Blast Shield to survive those frags and semtex.

I like the Raffica as a secondary weapon, it will give you some range. Or you could use Thumper+Scavenger, it may be hard to get close to people without Marathon though...

I only ever use the RS class with a throwing knife, just to get the challenges easily.

I used Scavenger to refresh throwing knives, after I've used them. I used lightweight because moving even slower than an LMG was just painful IMO. And then Commando for extra long range when meleeing.

As a secondary, always use a pistol, or machine pistol for the quick draw speed. I always used the USP.45 and found it was good to whip out once the enemy I'm facing has fired all his bullets into my shield and has to reload.

I use the marathon/lightweight/commando set up to. seems to be really useful when lugging around a heavy shield.

make sure you swap out for stun grenades. flash bangs can be used as well, but I've just found the stunners to be more effective at slowing them down. Normally takes a couple bashes to take someone down, and stun grenades give you the time you need.

oh, and always backpedal. too many out there know the perfect counter to a RSer besides a sticky... all it takes is a simple side step and a knife swing to take you out in one shot.

Marathon can be nice, but if you are using the Throwing Knife, scavenger is pretty useful if not necessary.
Lightweight is good because the movement speed is pretty bad, and it helps to be maneuverable.
Commando is probably the most useful third perk... simply because the others arent all that important. Maybe ninja if you want to hide and not be detected (in some places the RS blends in quite well).

For equipment, I would recommend the Throwing Knife
Secondary: Pretty much depends for you. Handguns are nice for speed, so whichever one you want pretty much.

two ways that i know to use a riot shield

1) Fun way
Riot Shield
.44 Magnum TacKnife
Throwing Knife
Stuns
Marathon
lightweight
Commando

you bash/throw knife. if he runs away, use magnum.

2) Explosives
Riot Shield
.44 magnum Tacknife
c4
stuns
scavenger
danger close
commando

use c4 as main weapon, double tap reload to detonate. if c4 is gone and you facing an enemy, block his knife attack with the riot shield then quickly switch to tac knife to kill him. if someone tries to noob tube you, TURN AROUND TOWARDS THE EXPLOSION and you won't die. if you get stuck with semtex, switch to your magnum and you wont die.

i thought you had to pick up a new weapon off the ground... if you simply switch weapons i think you still die

im quite succesful with the shield, especially on 3rd person Team Tactical.

i use Blubs explosive class, the exact same one.
I get loads of kills from the C4 and the funny thing is people dont realise they are dying from C4 in the killcam lol

in 3PTT you can see alot better, espcially if someone tries to knife you. Dont worry too much about KDR, i just try to stay in the + but dont stress if i dont.

Just try to face everything and charge when people stop shooting, they normally run lol

also i think if you point your riot shield at the ground you live or something. just what i've heard.

and people dont watch killcams so thats why they dont know you c4 them to death.

The set up you want -

Riot Shield
Equipment - C4 (forget the throwing knife)
Scavenger
Danger Close
Commando/Scrambler (Scrambler's excellent for luring people into your C4)

The best part is - you can detonate the C4 without coming out of the shield. Double tap X (on Xbox). You'll then use Scavenger to get you more C4. I went plus 15 running this setup.

Oh, and I ran G18 Akimbo'd as my secondary, but the main show of this setup is the C4.

Surely if you die while there is a semtex on the front of the shield, it would be no different when you switch to your secondary and it is behind you instead?

If you look up the Modern Warfare 2 Mythbusters videos, they confirm that you can survive, but they drop the shield and pick up a new weapon. You can't just switch weapons

The only way you can be annoying with the riot shield is when you play on the gaint snow map and camp in the main building with another shield user.

Use, light weight, marathon, comando, and for secondary a machine pistol like the TMP or PP2000. And either a throwing knife if you know how to use one or claymore for guarding another entrance. And flash bangs.
