I wasn't speaking of making progress in this thread. I meant that IW's decision to not include dedicated servers for the PC community is a huge step backward in development. Instead of taking away something that is so important for a community with varying specs, they should be thinking of ways to put dedicated servers out there for consoles. Xbox honestly has NO excuse since Microsoft charges a monthly fee. They could surely put a portion of that into at least development time towards making it possible to host a console match on an actual server (which would mean big bucks for the actual server companies)

I love the fact that there are no dedicated in this game. CS is dead to me because it is so hard to find a good server.

With MW2 I don't have to worry about finding a low ping server and then hoping it isn't run by tyranical 12 year olds who ban hammer anyone for not playing how they want them to.

I love the fact that there is no console, etc... Each time I log in and play MW2 it's a consistent experience. No finding a server and realizing certain weapons or maps are banned.

Don't have to deal with clique's that hang out at some server and just use it as a chat session all game. I get matched up against random opponents. Not the same douchey server squatters you get on dedicateds.

There's much more. But damn I just love that there are not dedicated servers in this game.

But TBH I would never play this game on PC. It's not a great PC type game. But for console, xbox in particular, this game is awesome!

Back on topic.

yeah, when I installed the new maps I got totally pwnd at first. And they updated the matchmaking which resulted in my not getting any non prestige players in my lobbies. But now I'm rolling with the prestige players and hanging no prob. Just play on the maps and learn them. That's fun right! It's no fun to always be pwnage master supreme and rage quit if you die.

How The "Free Market" Works 101

I accumilate monies by exchanging a service (my job) for a currency (money)
Say I want to spend that on a games console, there are three ways in which the world could work:

1) The only games console in the world is made by sony. There is no competition. Sony can charge whatever price they like, safe in the knowledge that I will always buy it (obviously up to a point, but this point is very high), and so they do charge a high price. Not only does it cost a lot, but because there is no competition they don't need to bother making gradual improvements because that'd just cost money for no additional income.

2) Microsoft come along and decide to build a console. They call it the Playstation 3, give it an RSX GPU, a Cell CPU and a blu ray player. It is identical in every single way AND costs the same as Sony's PS3. This is utter fail, why would anyone buy the new microsoft product (which cost millions in R&D to bring to the consumer) ? Since there is no reason to buy one over the other, microsoft would get extremely low market penetration and thus would sell almost no units. We are now, btw, back to square one where there is no competition and sony can charge whatever they like and bring out a box full of rubbish tech.

3) So what do you need to do for effective competition? A competitive advantage. This means there has to be something about your product that makes me want to buy it more than Sony's offering - often known as a USP or "Unique Selling Point." This may be in the form of higher quality graphics, a more affordable RRP, really simple to set up etc. As you know Consoles in general went for the "cheap & low maintainence" option whilst the USP of PC gaming is versatility and higher quality gameplay.

You buy Heinz over Smart price because it tastes better, you buy smart price over heinz because it's more affordable. You buy a Ford over a Kia because of the brand image. You buy a better quality TV because you perceive the benefit is worth the cost. You buy a diesil because it's kinder to the environment and you value that more than engine power & initial price.

THAT is why competing products HAVE to, and as a result are, different.

Matt points out a good example of the trade offs that you HAVE to have for effective competition:

All that is great, but it comes at the expense of a shorter lifespan for the game (no mods) a worse game in the first place (inability to fix the bad bits to make it even more awesome) and crucially for anyone who wants to get some kills it trades ease-of-use (Ok, so that was a bad phrase to use given how frequently you get disconnected and how many attempts it takes to get into a lobby sometimes) for latency & connection quality. However to some, the trade off is worth it thus they buy non-dedi games, but for others the trade off isn't worth it thus they buy dedi-server-based games.

This is getting repetitive.

abc i agree with you to an extent and could see why you feel you deserve a different experience just because you opted to play on PC rather then console, and sure IW could have done more to give you the same experience you received on cod4 cod3 etc etc.

My observation was simply that PC users are upset more so then console users regardless of the reason, this is undeniably true. I should not have stated it as such that they are upset now that they are on level with console users, even though this is also undeniably true. I took truths and made a statement that may have looked negatively on PC users, but it makes it no less true.

Unfortunately i still disagree with you abc on the idea that PC users should even expect a different experience from a game then console users, for any reason. Just because you opted for a more expensive harder to maintain platform should not offer any benefits not available to other platforms, if it did the developers would not be doing their job properly, it should be all or none as it is now. Of course i would like all the things you want in a game, I didn't lose anything though which is why PC users are upset and Console users arn't in general of course.
