Hey I was wondering if when it matches you up with players, is it random or do they go by like a level scale? Sometimes I will be with like 4-10nth prestiges ( I'm 1st level 70) But othet times I will be playing free for all with like level 56 no prestige. lvl 30. low 1st prestige people. So is it random or is their a scale? Or is it only random in free for all?

IWnet loves to balance outplayers. Matched players are basically ppl with your skill level. Let's say your win to loss ratio is really high, they will match you up with people that have around that win to loss. So when you get better and better, you will start noticing more public clan teams you have to face.

IIRC, IWNet was supposed to put you with people of a similar rank, but clearly that doesn't happen. I got the game 2-3 months after it came out and got mega owned because I was playing w/ people that had already prestiged. I don't know about FFA as I don't play that game mode but it seems completely random and often times the teams end up stacked with multi level prestiger's on one side, and a bunch of nubs on the other. Especially during free weekends on Steam.

Anyway, no idea how the game matches players. I'm going to assume to takes into account KDR and score more than WLR and Accuracy.

I've noticed when you're in a party with a lower ranked player, it tends to put you players of his ranking more often. Might have been a coincidence for me though.

I have noticed that when i play with lower ranked friends we do play against lower rank people, but sometimes when i play with my clan we play a team of 6 who are still unprestiged lol.

Maybe it has something to do with that "gamer zone" thing they have on xbox if you have yours set to "Pro" you play with people who have the same setting so other people who would probably be higher prestige or if its "Family" probably lower prestige kids. But thats an xbox thing and it has nothing to do with IW.

I doubt IW matches players based on WLR or KDR if they do it definitely takes a back seat to finding games with the best connection for you.

and i tried noticing whether or not it matches w/ same rank. But i gave up. It is most noticeable when i play w/ my friend on his lvl 21 spam account... you see a lot more green then...

I never noticed any rhymn or reason to the matchmaking, I wishh they would match me up with overall score cause I rarely see anyone around me that has as high a KD as me on the leader-boards at that point.

Yup. Random is what I always thought. Then again, there is no way to compare stats in the lobby. We may never know...

No, but sometimes when I'm in a party it's almost pretty obvious. We are 5,6,7 Prestige with an average of 30k-45k kills with very decent KDR against non prestige less than level 70 players.

Whenever I join a lobby, it'll be full of players on 3,4,6 prestige etc..... but also a lot level of no prestige low levels, it's totally random for me, the lobby usually tries to pick the players closest to where I live rather than their ranks. (which it also fails miserably at)

That would be appreciated. Since this game's quality is directly affected by internet connection speeds, having everyone in one lobby be from the same general area would be nice. I always cringe when we get some French people in the lobby. (Not because I hate French people, they're just really far from here.)

Nothing wrong with hating French people.


Connection quality seems to be the main thing they match players on. Then I'm sure there's some secret code hidden in the depths of the game that matches players as well. I don't know if you get it on MW2, but on CoD4 when the lobby was almost empty you'd be there with "Matched Player" instead of their user name until it filled up.

I don't see how they couldn't have created a system for it. Seem like they'd be begging for problems if they let it be random.

Yeah, I agree. I'm sure its not something as solid as "everyone in this lobby has a KDR of 1.56" but it must take into account all the stats and try and balance people that way.

I think it also matches by connection and area. Twice I've searched for a random game and got put into one that my friend was in who goes to the same school as me.

I think that is a big part of it. I've also hopped into games and seen people that are from Washington state, one of which is a forum member. Also have never been dropped into a foreign game unless I'm member of a Euro party before we go into the lobby. IMO, location has more to do with it than rank. As I said before, I believe it was supposed to be balanced based on players rank and experience but we have all seen how totally random it is.

I got put into lobbies with a dude named "notmomsbasement" at least 12 times, so i finally friended him. He lives about 25 min away from me so I agree, thats probably the most likely match

Oh yeah it is, I was lvl 70 10th Prestige on my first day of MW2 ^_^

But it got boring eventually and I went back to lvl 1 no prestige.

It does get quite boring not being able to unlock stuff or do challenges. I went back after about a week also. I think I'm staying at Level 70 1st Prestige now.

Or I might hack to Prestige 3 for the extra slot.
