ok i have an issue here i tried to just play ffa and it sent me to one of those modded, speeded up, million points a kill lobbys and at first im wtf? whats all this? and then whatever i get kicked and i was like that was weird. then i go play a regular game and now i got that aim-assist bullshit and everyone is on the radar even if they dont shoot, even though some people may think thats awesome, i hate modders and i dont want to become one accidently anyway i can get rid of this?

Uninstall MW2. Choose "no" if it asks you if you want to preserve game settings etc (steam saves your rank online, dw) Uninstall Steam. Make sure there are no steam folders left over etc.

It'd be worth doing a virus scan of all your drives, and looking around for any suspicious folders ("program files" a good place to start? Although modders are clever enough not to make things obvious unless they want them to be...) that have appeared recently.

Reinstall. Pray you haven't been banned by vac (Valve Anti Cheat program - Although as you've discovered first hand it's absolutely useless at prevent hacking in MW2 unless a player specifically reports you) and that you've got rid of the multihack files.



Voluntarily playing modded games is great, but inadvertantly playing stupid (with auto installed hacks) modded lobbys sucks.

I reckon it's a conspiracy, by IW, to convince the PC world how bad modding and modded servers are so they can woo everyone to a Pptbs-2-P system LOL...

thanks for the help man but i play on xbox and either way i fixxed it all i had to do was restart my xbox but still thanx for atleast trying (more than most people would do...)

A similar thing happened to me recently too (but on PC), although all I got was pings displayed as a numeric value and closing and reopening the game removed that, too.

I got thrown into a modded lobby while playing Groundwar the other day. As soon as I saw it changed to Private Match on Rust I got the hell out, but it seems now that people are getting thrown into them randomly as opposed to being invited and having to pay some 11 year old his lunch money. Not cool.

I got infected (on pc) with a large minimap. I mean this thing is huge and blocks a good portion of my screen. Anyway, since I'm not very good with program file troubleshooting, I've learned to live with it, but it does inhibit by play.

Well, after looking in the mpconfig file (located: steam/steamapps/common/codmw2/players) the only line I could find that might be map size is:
seta compassSize "1" (that's the default I would assume)
So if yours is different to 1 changing that back would prob normalise the map.

Note: If you do open the mpconfig, just use ctrl+f "compass" to find it.

1) /compasssize was the size of the map (it's called "compass" because in COD1 it was a compass, and programmers are too lazy to change things. For example in the game code enemies are still called "axis," which is left over from previous WW2 COD games) so you'd assume, as we've covered - devs are too lazy to change names, it has to do the same thing here. Will add this to problems & solutions. Good shout.
2) Check problems & solutions sticky for how to gain a stock profile (infact for that matter, I may post one for refference...)
