Default Should I use a sniper or a smg on my knife setups?

I'm having a hard time deciding between using a sniper or a smg. The smg is actually useful, but the sniper can help at long ranges and with the ghillie camouflage.
Fyi, my knife setups are just a combination of cold-blooded, lightweight and ninja and commando resulting in four variations. I also have a different pistol on each of the setups with the exception of akimbo usp on the cold-blooded, commando setup for the fast knifing+lunge.
As of now, I have 2 snipers and 2 smgs on the builds. I have a m21 ebr and intervention which I like because they are the "extremees" of the sniper. The m21 ebr has the least recoil and the intervention is the only sniper with bolt-action.
Do you have any suggestions and opinions on which primary I should use?
I actually do very well with the ump45 because I used it all the time on my last account before I deleted it because I didn't like the name :P

Dont use the Intervention it doesnt 1 hit kill as much as with stopping power and the bolt action means a lot of the time you dont get a second shot.

I personally think it is a little cheap to use MLC (I don't mind commando, just not with M and L). My prefered Knife setup is Marathon CB and Ninja (as my sig says, sea no evil hear no evil speak no evil)
I use an silenced smg because you don't need SoH and it is stealthy, but I had success using the M21 too. I think the smg is largely the better choice, and you can also change between rounds when you fancy being Ghillied up.

Snipers are only really useful at long range, SMGs can back you up at the ranges you're supposed to be using. UMP .45.

I've tried doing a similar setup and find that with a sniper rifle I tend to focus more on sniping rather than knifing. A smg keeps you closer to the action. If I'm doing a knife setup I run a ump silenced with your perks but sometimes scav bc sometimes I lose my chucking knife. Biggest thing with a high speed knifer is knowing when to back off and plug them with your gun. I see so many of the mlc knifers sprinting full speed towards me and I just mow them down before they can get in range. Mlc doesn't make you a juggernaut you still take just as much damage. Sprint around in high traffic areas but stay in blindspots. Knifing technique is More important than your weapon loadout.

In some maps, like Rundown specifically, the ghillie suit makes you stick out like a sore thumb.

Use the UMP.45. Best sniper in the game.

is it easier to get a emp with smg or sniper as primary?
cuz i have uav, counter uav, and emp as killstreaks. I don't really like spending time in a game on a freaking laptop.

I'm in a similiar situation as the OP. I use a run/gun setup that knifes whenever possible. I usually run with the barrett because it's the best sniper rifle but I often times wonder just how good the gillie suit is.

It doesn't seem like it's really helpful unless you're prone in some cover and with cold blooded pro. As a run/gun class we're on the move so it's not really necessary in that regard. I just kinda like it because it looks cool.

I'm torn between the silenced UMP .45 and the sniper simply for the gillie. I run akimbo G18's (lol) as my secondary and pretty much never use sniper unless someone is standing still far away for an easy kill.

I use marathon, cold blooded and ninja.

I'm starting to think that the silenced UMP .45 is preferable and will run that going forward and forget the gillie.

if your knifing u wanna be close to people.... i'd use the ump...

UMP+ silencer
spas/rangers
throwing knife
marathon/scavenger
lightweight/stopping power
Commando/ninja

I've gotten some very very good knife killstreaks with it... I've won a match soley using knife and throwing knife... was one hell of a FFA match... sneaky sneaky... think i had the Ninja setup on it tho that match

urban camo from the 200 one shot one kills with sniper.

I'm with ninja on a few maps the ghille is counter productive. Use it for maps like underpass and wasteland where it helps conceal you. Have two different classes set up if you're that torn between the choice. Try both and see which works for you. I understand you're wanting some sound advice on set up but part of being a unique gamer is finding your own rythym. Everyone has different opinons on everything. I've seen snipers completly dominate with knifing and a few players that can hold their own even with an RPD. Technique man. As far as the emp goes. Idk. Set up kill streak that adds to your kills. Of course this is an old debate and can be found by searching the forum. Good luck man. Create your own style, you don't need to follow others advice verbatim
