I thought I would make this thread to make up for the fact that somehow there are virtually no sniper theads thus far (seriously shocking if you consider how many there were and still are in the CoD4Forums). Back in MW literally the only two guns I used were the M40 and the R700 and ,as a result, I at least like think I'm a bit pro with a virtual sniper So I'm really looking forward to see what MW2 has to offer the sniper community, arguably the largest and most wannabe group in FPS gaming.

Walther WA 2000 Singleplayer: YES / Multiplayer: YES
Semi-auto sniper rifle with a 6 round magazine. Interesting fact, only about 176 Walther WA 2000s were ever created.



SVD Dragunov Singleplayer: YES / Multiplayer: NO
Semi-auto sniper rifle with a 10 round magazine. This gun has been migrated directly from CoD4.



Barrett M107 Singleplayer: UNKNOWN / Multiplayer: YES
Semi-auto sniper rifle with a 10 round magazine. This gun has been migrated directly (with some small changes) from CoD4 and is the strongest of the semi-auto snipers with its .50 calibre round.



Intervention M-200 Singleplayer: UNKNOWN / Multiplayer: YES
Bolt-action sniper rifle with a 5 round capacity. The only bolt-action sniper and is slightly similar in appearance to the Barrett.



M21 EBR Singleplayer: UNKNOWN / Multiplayer: YES
Semi-auto sniper rifle with a 20 round box magazine. This gun has replaced the SVD in multiplayer and completes the full sniper list, there are no more snipers to confirm in MW2.




From looking at the selection so far, I'd say the Walther is looking like a fave for me, although given the skill/cool factor of bolt-actions in CoD the Intervention is just as promising. The sleek/compact design of the Walther is leading me to think snipers might start favouring this on the game's release but seeing as I have no idea about damage multipliers and such yet I really can't make much of a guess.

THIS IS NOW THE COMPLETE LIST There will be no more snipers in MW2. The final tally stands at 4 semi-auto snipers and only 1 bolt action sniper. I for one am dissapointed.

Other MW2 Sniper Info
- Ghille suits will now differ between the two teams when playing
- Attachments confirmed for snipers thus far are: ACOG, Silencer

I like the Dragunov in COD4, so hopefully it will remain as awesome, and I look forward to trying out the new snipers.

The Wa2000 is hella expensive and impractical in real life, but kinda cool.

and yea, there better be more bolt action snipers, like a Sako TRG or something

Yea when i first started playing i loved the Dragunov but then i moved on and realised that the M40A3, Barret and R700 are all better (IMO)

M40's the best with Stopping Power, but I prefer the Dragunov to the R700 any day, and I favor it over the Barret as well. I use the Dragunov with UAV Jammer for a more stealthy sniper class as opposed to the M40 and Stopping Power.

I'm going to try all of the sniper rifles but I'm especially looking forward to trying out the intervention. If it's as good as it's supposed to be I'll be sticking with it.

In CoD if you can beat a guy with an AR at close range 8/10 times and ALWAYS get at least a hit marker when you shoot you would be elite. IRL hitting a moving target at 1000m would make you "elite".

I'll probably use all of them. At least until I complete all of their challenges. A 6-round semi-auto in the WA2000? Really? I thought they were supposed to have big clips! I'll use the intervention the most though, since it's a bolt action and is so badass in RL!

I'm going to miss it too but you know they are going to have something that is at least equivalent to the M40.

I'm going to try every one of the sniper rifles out and then make my choice and probably stick with it through the whole game. I cant wait!!!
