Default No dedicated servers ?

Is this true ? and if so do you think this will be addressed with a patch down the track ? when i first heard this news it almost turned me off wanting to purchase MW2, I have been a Clan member for all my games BF2, COD, Unreal tournament and others and have always used a dedicated server to train on, but if all the MW2 servers are public servers this is going to make it extremely hard to practice with team mates and will also expose our methods to other gamers.

What are your thoughts on this ?

See this link. The issue of dedicated servers is being discussed at length.

http://www.modernwarfare2forum.com/m...confirmed.html

But the short answer is there will be no dedicated servers for PC gamers and it sucks.

I have a reasonably good understanding of networking concepts, including P2P. Dumbed down version for the layman: When a P2P client is running, it is essentially a listen server, connecting to all the other P2P clients (which are also listen servers). In this case MW2 is the P2P client, I believe (admittedly I may be wrong) IWnet will be working as the tracker, and the listen servers (hosts) will be connecting to each other and communicating with each other. There may be 3 or 4 clients connected to each listen server, and each host will be updating the other hosts as to where each of the clients connected to it are and what they're doing. Yes it will rely on good systems (which most players of MW will already have) and good internet connnection (which are getting better now that ADSL2+ is becoming more popular).

What would be the point in the servers connecting to each other, other than to provide more than one host?
Slightly offtopic, but do you think this sort of system could be implemented on the consoles?

This is a theoretical question obviously, but it sounds like a feasible idea.

Possibly. I don't actually know for sure that this is how they'll be doing it with PC, but if it is, then I see no reason why something similar couldn't be utilised for consoles.

By the way, to all the people who've cancelled their pre-order/signed the petition. Well done. You've succeeded in giving MW2 so much free publicity that companies like GAME are reporting a massive increase in demand for the game

There's no such thing as bad publicity, so IW win. Quelle surprise.
To be honest, 2/3 of their target audience (console owners) don't care about the issue and not everyone from the remaining 1/3 gives a tinker's cuss either. People were just doing what consumers should be doing more of, voting with their feet. If you don't like something, don't buy it and say why if you get the chance.
IW are a company, created maybe at first to produce great games for loyal fans, but as they've grown it's increasingly about product and profit. At some point in any growing organisation's evolution, the poles switch. I've seen it happen over and over in the communications business. Great little companies start up with a keen bunch of staff, get bought out or taken over, and stop being what they were.

God damn.... I was planning on buying the PC version of MW2 a month or so after my 360 preorder arives, mostly for the mods and the awesome feel of playing on a PC. But this is just putting me off of it... I'm fine with partnering with steam, Valve is a great company who I will gladly give my money to for DLC. But the dedicated servers....fuck, that's complete bullshit.
