Just heard Robert (402) confirm no Dedicated servers for PC on BASHandSLASH.
It's all matchmaking through IWnet. And no PunkBuster, it will be VAC for anticheat.

PC communities are very different from the console ones. Matchmaking systems just don't fit into it. It doesn't allow for modding either, so mods are out of the question. It removes competative gaming from the PC without things like promod. Also going from dedicated servers to one person hosting from their home PC is a step backwards for PC gaming, meaning lots of lag, ping disadvantage, connection problems.

What's worse is that because CoD is probably the biggest FPS series on PC, then other developers might look at it and decide to follow.


However a lot of people have cancelled pre-orders (including myself) and want to boycott sales numbers by not buying the game to send a message to IW. Realistically this is the only way they can really feel the impact of what they've done to the PC community.

Hmmm...I see. Well it's not enough to make me cancel my order. I don't have enough money to buy another PS3 anyway and I still want to play the game.

I guess it's different for people like me who have always lived on the dark side! haha. Must admit though...the number of times I nearly threw my PS3 controller against the wall because lag caused me to die a horrible death at the hands of a bad player...

Yea mines canceled also. Will wait and see if the modders can find away to do dedicated servers before I buy it. Possibly if enough boycott it then they will patch so we can have them.

Here is the official word on it from 402. skip ahead on the broadcast to 1:38 that is where he comes on.

Default No dedicated servers
It has been announced that there will be no support or hosting for any Dedicated Servers for the PC version of this game . The only way you will have online gaming is if you host from your own computer, and it will be capped at 16 players. You will also have no control over your server, and the only way to enforce any rules will be by vote kicking......

Good luck to any clans/units that are going to try to switch over. We at the 7th Cavalry will not be moving this direction. This is pure idiocy.

i need word from IW themselves (like a post from a REALY reliable source unlike the delayed rumors) before i beleive it.

It would loose alot of pc players if they did it

IW forum is not good enough. nevertheless this is total LUNACY. What the hell are IW playing at. WORSE is they are trying to drum up features that we already have as though they are new and good.

seriously I thought a certain community manager at IW was a bit of a twat anyway, focusing all his efforts purely on consoles rather than very ironically giving an equal share of attention to PC players (it is so ironic because COD is popular because of all the original games were only on PC. if it wern't popular then it wouldn't have taken off and branched to consoles thus they would not need a "community manager" thus he would not have a job)

but no, it appears the people behind MW2 are a bit odd as well in what they define as "improvements."

but now they are improving the console versions and making the PC version worse? I mean come on. lol not to mention they've raised the price of the PC version... and we get less of a game than COD2?[/spoiler]

This sucks hugely. Not quite sure what IW is thinking with this one. FPS and PC go hand in hand. Doesn't make sense to cut out a huge segment of the gaming population with news like this. Plus, what happens to all the people/clans that have ponied up $100's for their own servers? They better be getting refunds. Bullshit, pure and simple.

lets see, cut funding for dedicated pc servers... save 33,000,000$ put out 4 map packs for 360, ps3 and pc for 10$ each thats 40$ a player... with some 20-30,000,000 players on all 3 consoles...

hmm.. money whores. oh and iw buddied with steam so no more free maps for pc, you will have to pay same as 360 and ps3 for the 4 dlcs.

yeah, if they've partnered with steam (i.e. a company who SELLS games) that most likely means that all DLC will cost money AND you'll have to get it from steam - which is notoriously buggy.
