I really can't decide which one is better. When I started playing, I used commando and standard layout and was an absolute BEAST at knifing. It saved me so many times, and got me loads of kills. It was just so easy to knife.

Then one day I got dropped shotted, and was like "wow thats cool imma try that." And I've been using tactical layout ever since. I honestly don't know how much it's helped me, because you never know if the person was going to kill you if you didn't dropshot them.

So anyways I went over to my cousins house for a week, and he used the standard layout, and we would just switch off playing every game. While I was watching him, I noticed he got a lot of great knife kills that I would never have been able to pull off.

So which one is really better? It's so hard to knife with tactical and so hard to dropshot with standard.

I prefer tactical layout, I use to use default but pantstofry convinced me to switch to tact. Its just really nice to have all your body movements on both joysticks instead of all over the controller.

CoD4: Tactical Set Up
MW2: Default Set Up

The knife is too overpowered to ignore in MW2, having it on the joystick will make life much easier. That said, i still use tactical on MW2 because I adjusted from CoD4, but to anyone considering switching to tactical now i wouldn't bother.

the knife will trump a dropshot way too aften in this game, anyway why dropshot when everything in this game is an instakill.

Default is much better for knifing, tactical will not give you that advantage which is needed as much as you get to be face to face with the enemy.

Yes, I toldja so! I prefer it, I think knifing is nice but kinda stupid, I'd rather keep it a first person shooter... I get very few knife kills but w/e

unless you've mastered that weird "claw" grip...

Knifing really isnt that hard in tactical,I don't find any trouble once you get use to it, its wierd though because I never drop shot.

Interesting. I've been seeing this so-called "tactical" layout mentioned on the forums but I never really looked into it. Now that I know what it is I think I will be switching to it. I'm an absolutely TERRIBLE knifer. The tactical layout should serve me well. Also, I always wondered how people pulled off those drop-shots so quickly! haha

Oh I know. I meant that since I'm terrible at knifing I would be better served with the crouch button mapped to R3. I rarely ever knife at all.

I like the tactical layout for a few reasons...

• When I see someone close to me, but out of knife range, I sometimes panic, and accidentally hit the knife button while im shooting because my hand tenses up. With the tactical layout, I just dropshot when I would normally knife and miss a kill
• I like dropshotting, and I've noticed that the more I play, the less I knife, I've also noticed that it's harder to lock onto someone moving vertically with a knife (ladders, crouching, jumping) so dropshots are a semi-good counter to knifing
• I snipe a lot, and It's easier to get into a good position with crouching without having to move my thumb to crouch, so that I can get a kill while dropping/crouching if I need to

However, despite all of that, I use a custom layout similar to tactical, except I switched the reload and knife buttons.
So on a XBOX
B = Reload
X = Knife
Clicking the right analog = crouch/prone

I do this because I have trouble with reloading, where as I reload right after shooting someone, and don't take the time to get to cover, the button switching made me knife instead, and broke me of the habit.

Try both, take notes, compare K/D ratios. Set-ups are different for everyone. What works for one person won't work for another.

I've gon upto third prestige with standart but about level 50 of this I changed and im playing better, it makes it easier and if you have good aim it is easir to shoot 2/3 shots than to knife

It switches the knife and crouch/prone around. This enables you to have all movement (except jump) on your two sticks.


OT: Unless you knife a lot. Tactical. Since I switched it has saved me numerous times. Being able to duck, spin round, pop up when under fire has proved invaluable.


Edit: Just noticed this is for 360. I imagine the same rules apply though

im not liking how people say the knife is too much of an asset, but many times i have ducked under a knife and sprayed someones feet. i guess i depends if youre used to a set of controls.

So I switched to the Tactical layout and I am very happy with this decision. Since I rarely knife anyway this was a logical choice. Plus it has saved me often since i can duck behind cover, now, without moving my thumb off the joystick.

but now im tac knifing so standard is the way to go for that

Pants: I still tac knife on tactical. Takes some getting used to, but apart from the panic/commandoupthestepsroundthecornerstabyer twitch some people have (if you knife air occasionaly, this means you), I haven't suffered at all, in fact I now use a better combination of bullets and blade in CQB.
Unless you MLC on favela or something tactical IS better. The only real exception to this is if you use claw technique, which is probably the best but is difficult and imo uncomfortable.
