Default Child's Play?

I know some might say i'm a bad parent for this, but my 5yr boy is hooked on mw2, before he goes to school, when he comes back from school and before he goes to bed! all he ever does and is intrested in is mw2? i have to fight with him to get a shot! he knows everthing including weapons, perks, name of all uav's etc....and he's getting good at it. when he's not online he plays mw2 with his toy gun's with his little brother who is 4 and scared of mw2.
So who else have children that play this game and are they anygood?

WBR

P.S: I have bought other more "child friendly" games for him but say's their to "childish" for him?
might have to just get rid of the console full stop, i'm getting a bit too addicted to it aswell for my wife's liking?

Ok its bad enough that you let your 5 year old play a game that is rated M, but you shouldn't be encouraging him to run around and act out the game too. He is likely to get carried away and hurt someone. Think about it. What would you do if he tried to commando knife someone, or throw something at them pretending it was a grenade.

qft.

Why would you even let your 5 year old play MW2? There's a reason you have to be 17/18 or older to play.

Basically why I wasn't allowed videogames until I was in highschool. You need to step up to the plate and pull the plug on this guy. You don't even get a shot? :shakesheadsadly: Yeah he'll be pissed he's 5 whatever he'll get over it. Getting rid of it completely won't be a bad idea. Then he can live his life in the real world.

While this is true, he still shouldn't allow a 5 year old to play MW2.

Mature for a five year old is still not mature enough to play something like MW2. Most kids his age play doctor or spaceman not reenact the The Battle of Fallujah.

Agreed with pretty much everything that Dante said. As long as you can teach your child that the acts in the video game is fine for fantasy-life, but not real life, you should be fine. If you were talking about your child repeating the sex scene in one of the Red Dead Redemption missions, you'd have a problem. I highly doubt you would lose so much control over your 5 year old that he would be on the news for getting a rifle and committing mass murder.

Then you should have nothing to worry about.

Be a good parent and educate your children of what is right and wrong. However, if the video game is affecting your family in any negative way, you should back off of the game a little. Sheltering your kid can do more bad than good.

You aren't a terrible parent for letting your children enjoy video games. As said before, just educate.

There's valid points for both sides. However, the OP talked about letting his 5 year old play the game before school and all night. That's bad parenting. I'd play video games with my kid for an hour before bedtime, I wouldn't let them go overboard on it. That could lead to problems, not saying it will in this case, but it might do.

And as soon as he comes home. So all in all, the kid is playing MW2 almost all day.

And to the OP: You ARE the parent. You CAN tell him that you want to play.

Letting him take control over you is also bad parenting.

I'm sorry but I agree that letting your kid play at five is a little crazy. He has his entire life in front of him. If he spends it playing video games all day long, he will have very few experiences to look back on and cherish. Video games are fun for the short term, but there are things he needs to experience in the real world for him to grow up and be a successful adult.

I might end up letting my kids play M rated games early (down the road when I have them), but by early I mean like late middle school or early high school. Every parent is different, sure... but I highly recommend stopping his playtime for now. If he is dead set on playing video games, there are PLENTY of titles that are meant for the whole family and even focus on children. I would say your best bet is get him some of those games and then also limit his daily time to an hour or so, so that he still has to go and do other stuff at other points in the day.

If you're spending quality time with him while he plays, and he really is happy, then let him play. But all day is ridiculous, he's going to have to learn at some point that you have to moderate how much you do. I can't play for more than 4 hours before I call up a friend and hang out somewhere. You're the parent though, make your son happy without overindulging him

Cuz let's be honest, in a relationship, your life is her opinion.
But seriously, it's not right that you let your child play that much.
I'm not getting into the ethics of letting a five-year old play an M game. But there are so many more things a five year old could be doing.

for example.

He shouldn't be spending his entire day playing war games, and you should know that as a parent. Give him some diversity! He's five, he'll get over it if you don't let him play.

I agree to an extent. You should definitely keep him away from the online side of this game, and instead play the campaign (or Spec Ops) along with him. The game itself isn't horribly unacceptable (aside from the few swear words) but then online community is f***ing despicable for the most part. Definitely not for a 5 year old to interact with.
