Default Daytime Players vs. Nighttime Players

Here's what I've discovered recently. I generally play during the day time, before I head to work. Rarely do I play at night, since I'm either at work or sharing the TV with the girlfriend. But, I've played a few nights and a few days in the past week and I've noticed a distinct difference in playstyles from the two groups.

Nighttime Players:
.....1) Noob Tuber. Big time. I played a game just recently where I was killed a 10-12 times. Not once did a bullet kill me. Noob-tube accounted for all but one kill, the other was a well placed claymore. This seems to be the primary cause of death in the night games. In fact, players will Noob Tube someone that's completely unaware of their location, back turned to them, in the prone position. A good knifing will do, but the night time gamer wants to blow something up.

.....2) Low Profile. Now, don't get me wrong, in this game camping is damn near essential for survival. So, I have nothing against that. But in this group of players, it seems to be the only way to go. The daytime MVPs will have 10-20 deaths (with 30-50 kills). The nighttime MVPs will have 3-8 deaths (with 40-60 kills). I rarely ever encounter the tactical-knife sprinter, the akimbo sprinter, or the riot shield guy. In fact, in the 10 or 12 games I played tonight, I didn't see any of these three. It seemed all the skilled players were going for the...

.....3) Global Thermonuclear War. Today I played from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm. Then again I played from 10:00 pm to 12:00 am. In the two hours I played during the day, there were two tactical nukes. Total. In the first two games in the night cap, there were two nukes by two different players. All told, in the night cap, I was victim of five nukes.

Daytime Players:
.....1) Freerunner. These guys are all over the map. Sprinting from one section to the next. They don't wait for the kills to come their way. Camping is generally a bad idea during the day. Here you'll see the akimbo sprinter taken out with by the tactical-knife sprinter who gets hosed down by the shotgun sprinter. Sprint. Sprint. Sprint.

.....2) Ghillie in the Mist. The sniper is in every map. Often, there are 3 on each side. Even when it makes little sense to be a sniper, someone is lugging that rifle around. The night crew has the occasional sniper, but usually they are on the "sniping maps", not in Favela, Karachi, or Crash.

.....3) Team Player. Another big difference in the two groups is that the night crew generally doesn't care about winning objective games. It's all about padding stats. The night players will walk past objectives with no intention of stopping, hoping to sneak in behind the enemy team for a few easy kills. The day crew, on the other hand, seem much more inclined to chase the objective, rather than turn every match into Team Deathmatch.

I don't see how you can shoebox "playstyles" into time brackets

I play FFA in the early morning for several reasons. I like to play around 6AM-11AM

I've never never run into any boosters playing this early.
I play without the map packs and I can get hella noobed out lobbies with legit low level noobs.
I pull insane win streaks when I play in the morning.
I can get AC130 or Chopper Gunner EVERY GAME.
my internet connection is insane during the day or morning when no one else is hogging bandwidth (I have a 50/10 connection)

Totally different than playing the game during peak time. I don't do nearly as well. Constantly getting boosted by 3 man body guarded boosting teams. Noob tubers, quick scopers, bull shit, bull shit, bull shit...

I have played games at night and day (mostly nights though). The trend the OP states is pretty close. I just find it funny how I usually fit within his daytime players play styles. I'm usually the guy trying to snipe on the maps that don't really call for it. If I'm not sniping I'm usually the free runner trying to always flank the enemy.

I live in the midwest, so there's always a coast at, erm "peak time" for gaming kids i guess... although I'd agree, i see all of those playstyles anytime. and mattv stop saying that playing w/o map pack is easier, it's kinda making me want to delete them lol

I disagree but you have a point. I do have an easier time playing at around 2PM then I do 2AM.. I do believe that some of the better players are on late at night, but the bad players far outweigh the good players.

I haven't noticed a particular trend of playstyles
of other players at different times of the day but personally I tend to rush more in the morning and camp more at night. I'm often doing 12 hr shifts at work and by the time I get home I'm exhausted so I normally just sit down in one spot and build up my killstreaks.

who's day and whose night? Surely as a worldwide game phenomenon all time zones must be covered, and one would therefore expect to have a total cross section of game styles and clans playing at anytime of day or night you choose to join

Evening is usually the worst. That's when all the kids are done with school and their parents let them play video games instead of having to look after them. I try to avoid that time of day, although with it being the school holidays the game is pretty bad a lot of the time.

Due to the matchmaking system and how it works you are far more likely to connect to games with a host "close" (in a networking sense) to you. You are unlikely to connect to someone on another continent unless it can't make a connection to a host one your continent. For North American players this will almost never happen.

Just callin' it like I see it.

( How can you possibly fail at casual gaming?)

You're welcome to disagree, but the couple dozen games I played tonight only reaffirm my opening post. In fact, the camping/noob-tuber claim has a double-whammy that I've only recently discovered (and, this I swear, have only encountered in night game sessions):

One-Man Army Noob-Tuber (with a side of Camper):
This one blew me away with its simultaneous genius and "afraid-to-get-my-hands-dirty" cheapness. For those that are unaware (I'm sure most of you have seen this or done this), this playstyle basically grants the player unlimited noob-tube rounds by spending his two grenades, using One-Man Army to re-equip, then fire off the next two grenades, rinse and repeat as desired.

As the saying goes, you paid for it, you play it how you want. So, I can't be mad at these guys for using this tactic, if that's how they want to play. I feel cheap and dirty for getting kills this way, so I avoid it. Even with noob-tube occasionally equipped, I usually try for multi-kills with the thing. Call it pride.

Tubing and camping rife in MW2 non-shocker.

I find it amazing some people still bother to call out campers mid-match.

Just a possible thought...when I'm more tired or more annoyed I'll tend to switch to noob tubes because they are just easier and more gratifying. The times I usually pull this tactic are after work and at night. During the day when I'm more refreshed and alert I'll typically be more prone to attack via sniper/ar only. Not that that's the case with everyone, but it explains at least my actions.

I usally play better in the nighttime because when the suns out and everybodys doing something you cant concintrate very good. But in the night I can focus and get some good games every game.

Heres an example.

Day time average score.
12PM-5PM
50+ Kills
20-Deaths

5PM-10PM
70+ Kills
20-Deaths

10PM-6AM
100+ every game
20- every game

You could say I like to spawn trap the whole game, every game.
