Default Best thing to record mw2 with?

Well, since I've been getting some sexy shots with my rifles lately, I want to start recording. So my question is what should I record with? I heard Fraps is popular but also makes HUGE files. So any suggestions would be appreciated.

(if this is in the wrong section, sorry, please move it)

Dazzle HD Recorder.
The good thing about the Dazzle, it records in HD quality and is compatible with PC, Xbawcks and PS3.

Dazzle sucks.

Try out WeGame. Heard good things about it from Kll131.

Next time you judge something, back it up with proof, eh?

@OP, Also, I hear WeGame lags a bit when it's recording, but the end video has no lag. This might not be true, though.

Lag is subjective. I heard this cheap hooker steals from clients, so use a different cheap hooker instead, because they won't.

Hey Guys, i also used wegame for my first fragvideo...and with a normal computer like mine (pentium d 2x3,4ghz, 4096MB Ram, GF9800GT) its not playable while recording...but the end film is really good without lags...Thats why mw2 sucks...in cod4 we had a record function to record first ingame without any lags and playdemo after and record it with other tool like wegame, fraps etc...but its mw2...so u need a high-end computer or some other program. I never used dazzle...its this even better then wegame?

Exactly. General poor performance whilst recording is almost completely dependant on hardware. Therefore, if different software is unlikely to help.

The OP seems to have no trouble recording, his only issue is file size. I have limited experience of each Fraps and WeGame, so I don't know which is better, I am merely suggesting the use of another reputable program instead.

The other alternative is to buy another HDD. If you do, get a Samsung F3.

I use fraps and my framerate drops substantially. I mainly use it for killcams now. Is it possible to use Xfire to record MW2 games even though there is no xifre overlay in game? Could you still record with it just running in the background? And fraps files are huge but you have the option of recording at different fps and at half size which cuts it down slightly. Plus you can compress the final file in a software program such as windows movie maker and upload to youtube, then delete the native video file.

WeGame performs slightly better than Fraps & uses smaller files. The catch being, you have to sacrifice quality. This is neither here nor there when it comes to Youtube.

As for space; Terabyte HDD's are cheap these days.

I use FRAPs, it's generally about 4gb per 2 and a half minutes I think. A game will typically take around 15gb. Using adobe Premiere I can compress the files with minimal quality loss to around 1gb.
An example: YouTube - [PC] S&D Commentary Underpass 11-1
That game was around 14gb and I think I uploaded it at 800-900mb.
As you can see the quality is fairly good.

The only issue is what Ghost mentioned, significant frame rate drops. I get anything from 30 to 60.

Although I haven't tried it (my internet is so painfully slow that I don't want to go through having to upload a decent sized file), apparently PlayClaw is good. It takes advantage of multicore cpus etc. to minimise the performance decrease.

Well people have mentioned it on the Steam forums (even in the cod section), so I would presume so and I doubt vac is stupid enough to think anything with an overlay is a hack.

The dazzle is not the best thing to record with. You want either a HDPVR or FRAPs.
Since the thread tag is [PC] the best thing he could use is FRAPs, providing he can run it while playing at a decent FPS

I can run practically anything without any lag as long as I have a good host. Thanks for the feedback guys, I guess I'll try out fraps, and if that doesn't work I'll try the other suggestions.

Also @ OP, tried PlayClaw. A lot less FPS loss with it, similar file size. My only problem is that it was a bit unstable, first time I used it MW2 crashed. I did manage to get a whole game recorded. 5:40 mins and it's around 8gb.
Oh, other small issue is the PlayClaw watermark that you get with the trial version but this obviously makes sense since it's a Trial after all.

It really depends on how much you want to spend. I use Huappauge 1212 HD PVR, and the files are rarely over 1 gig (in 720p, it's more in 1080i, but there's not much of a difference so I like smaller files). The quality is amazing, but they're a bit pricey.

I'm not going to spend anything, I can get every recording program such as hypercam, camtasia, fraps etc for free.
